Hi guys,

I saw my Headache Specialist today for a follow up appointment.  Last summer he took away my diagnosis of Chronic Migraine and did some investigations of his own.  These included a MRI scan various blood tests together with headache diaries!  After careful consideration he has diagnosed 'Hemicrania Continua'.

For anyone who does not know what Hemicrania Continua is, it is a continuous headache or feeling that something is there with autonomic symptoms (i.e. drooping eyelid, blocked nose, runny nose, tearing etc) and exacerbations of that headache like attacks!  The treatment for this is Indomethacin, nothing else works efficiently.

Ann - glad to know you finally got  a diagnosis - sometimes, that is half the battle. 

Sorry to sound stupid but what is indomethacin?  Just curious.

Indomethacin is and anti-inflammatory drug, and it is not known why it works for Hemicrania Continua but it does - it also works for Paroxysmal Hemicrania too!

Also, indomethacin is often used to treat other types of chronic migraine.  As Ann said, it's an anti-imflammatory, particularly strong.

I have had doctor's mention this before, but the infomethacin did nothing more me.
right now I'm going on a 4 day migraine...fun stuff! My doctors say that that they won't give me any more medss. untill I see a Psych. that just makes me upset which doesn't help migraines. I'm frustrated b/c i've gotton myself off all meds except for imitrex inj. I even stopped taking the Fentanyl on my own, which doessn't happen much. Its so frustrating!

AngMichelle:  How long did this migraine last?  What did you take to get rid of it?  Are you still off all of your meds?

Ann:  How is the Indomethacin work?  Are you still taking it?  Any side effects?

baseball mom, I am on Imitrex inj PRN, and stadol ns(which I don't use often at all anymore). I haven't had a migraine in 2 weeks!!!! How are your headaches?? It was you that was going to read Energy Medicine right?? You should!!

Thank you for asking about the Indomethacin. It is doing a fantastic job as during the day time I am pain free!!!!

One of the side effects of Indo is headache would you believe and some mornings I wake up with an awful one, but they are not like the normal heads that I have had!!! These morning headaches are quickly zapped with oxygen for me!!

A whole month with no attacks for me is unheard of, so this is brilliant!!!!


AngMichelle - Glad to hear that you have been migraine free for the last two weeks, that is good news and shows that you have been doing something right in getting yourself off some of the drugs you were on, I hope this continues to get better for you!!! Hope you get to see the psych soon too and then I know you will feel a lot happier!
