Did anyone see the piece that was done about the new surgery for Occipital Neuralgia this morning on (I believe) Good Morning America?  A friend of mine saw it and said that a plastic surgeon and a neurosurgeon had teamed up and come up with a surgery that goes in and scrapes part of the muscle away from the occipital nerve to give the nerve more room.  She was telling me about it because she thought it might be something I should check into.  I told her that I would try to check but that I didn't have ON - I have migraines that have to do with the vessels in my head - no the nerves.  Just thought I would throw it out there for any of you that suffer with ON.  You can probaby can go to the Good Morning America website and find out about it.

I don't have occipital neuralgia either.  But I'm having a trial occipital nerve stimulator implanted in a few weeks and I've had some relief from occipital nerve blocks.  The point I'm trying to make is that, although my head pain also comes from the brain and treating the occipital nerve isn't going to stop that cause, it has the possibility of eliminating the symptoms.  The surgery you mention sounds a little drastic for people without the ON, but don't rule out treating your nerves because you have inner head pain.

Does anyone with Occipital Neuralgia get facial tingling.  I have terrible head pain in the back of my head, when I move a certain way my face tingles, weird!!  Just wondering, I also have a bulging disk at C-3, could that be the cause.  No neck curvature either due to muscle spasms. eyes

I have Occipital Neuralgia, and YES my face tingles and it twitches once it's a full blown migraine. The twitching gets so bad you can actually see it happening.

Recently Diagnosed with O.N. my neurologist just started treating me with Botox injection in my neck. OMG within 6 hours I did feel a bit of a relief. I've lived with this since Jan 1992 I actually forgot how horrific the pain in my neck and shoulders was! Amazing how 'use' to pain we become huh.

I'll let you know how my next treatment goes, my 1st injections were at the end of August 2007.
