eye pain?

Hi all,

I am having what I have been calling another severe headache.  Only thing is if I close my right eye or put pressure on it, the pain seems to let up.  I had an eye exam beginning of last year, and no optic nerve damage, but I'm wondering if anyone who has ever had ON had this symptom?  Should I call the neuro, or take some more advil and wait until my next appt?

Thanks for always being here for me to turn to.

Hey Debbie,

I have no idea what that means.  I would definitely call your doctor though.  It sounds scary and painful.  Good luck.

hi  my o.n. started in may with no pain at all just very blurry vision. in aug. i had the most awful pain ever on the right side of my head and if i touched my eye. the nerve test they did at the eye dr. showed no i mean NO signs of on or anything else it took them 3mths and an mri later to tell me i had on and m.s. thats just my story with eye pain what you have may be completely different so i would call your dr.

I've said this before here. I'm pretty stoic about most things, but if there is ANYTHING wrong with my eyes, I'm on the phone to the opthamologist immediately. Note I said "opthamologist", not neurologist. They're the best ones to examine your eyes and determine what might be going on (and yes, they can tell right away if it is optic neuritis or not.) If it IS optic neuritis, the opthamologist should then call your neuro and report that -- and you should, too -- and perhaps the neuro will want you to go on some treatment for it. Optic neuritis is one of the few things that steriods seem to generally help with. Good luck!

Hey Debbie

I agree with the others...see u'r eye doc SOON. Don't wait and try the advil...move on this just to be safe. I get some pretty hefty eye pain and i've been told it's migraines, so maybe that could be u'r issue as well, but better to be sure of that and get some meds as well. I've never noticed the pain going away or even alleviating any from pressure...but then i've never checked! Please don't sit on this...if u'r having it coming and going...that severe headache...u should see the doc anyway, but especially with this new revelation!! Take care friend!

I hope you are feeling much, much better today! I’ve never had ON, so I can’t give you any idea there. However, I will echo all the great advice above and suggest you let your doc know what’s going on.

Hi everybody,

 

Thank you all for your quick responses and words of encouragement.  I have a call out to my neuro and am waiting for the office to get back to me.  I called my optomologist(sp) this morning and the first appt the receptionist would give me is Jan 22nd.  She suggested I call the neuro and see what she suggests, then if I need to get in, they will give me an appt with one of the other optomologist.

 

Gotta love waiting.  If I could just keep the one eye closed it helps, but that doesn't work when I need to get the kids from school to their activities.

 

I'll keep you all posted.  Thanks again for the advice and caring words.

How are you. I have ON And every so often i get the eye pain in my left eye. It hurts to look to the side but to even touch my eye or put pressure on it it really really hurts. I do not get headaches, however i do get sometimes, flashes in the corners of both eyes and it gets so bad that i can not focus at all. I know when it is coming on and advil takes it away in about 10 minutes. I  hope this helps.

i was dx with ON in april , and then i found
out. in may i have ms. it is as LYNN
says, but i take tylenol, i do not get headaches,
i just started with the flashes. see a eye dr.

did not have pain, but did have double vision and blurring. my neuro. sent me to well's eye center in philly to see a neuro-opthalmogist to check for on. wasn't that, but now i'm having an mri of brain stem to check if sclerosis is affecting that.

when the double vision happened, i called my neuro.
