My best friend, my adoptive sister has MS, and I know it's hard for her. This coming summer, we'll be getting an apartment when I complete my CNA certification.
I want to make things as easy as I can for her, because she's been there for me when my life has been sheer hell and I love her like she was my blood sister. The only reason I have a family now is because she, and her family, have "adopted" me. If you have any tips, anything you can think of, maybe that has helped you, or that you wish someone HAD done, could you let me know?
Get an apartment with air conditioning. Keeping cool is often crucial for someone with MS, particularly in the summer (assuming you're in North America).
Get an apartment on the first floor..or in a building with an elevator. Steps can be extremely difficult for lots of folks with MS. If they don't have problems walking, balance is often a key. Get an apartment that doesn't have steps to get in/out of the front door to the building.
Get an apartment that doesn't have thick rugs. Walking is sometimes difficult, "foot drop" (where one foot doesn't move quite properly) is often a problem, and thick rugs can lead to tripping.
Let HER arrange the apartment to suit her needs. Each of us has different needs, and having someone else..even someone loving and kind..arrange our living space for us can be challenging. (Like, where the bed should be placed; where stuff is in the kitchen, bathroom, etc.)
That's all I can think of right now....
