Optic Neuritis Specialist Visit

Hey Everyone

I haven't posted about my eye in awhile just because there was nothing really new to say. I followed up with the good eye doc (who dx'd ON) last week and he referred me to an ON specialist. This doc was reported to be the best in the state and if availability says anything about that, he must be! There is a standard waiting period for an appt of 3-4 months, however my eye doc made a call to him and was able to get me into see him yesterday! So kudos to my eye doc! This new doc was FANTASTIC!!! He is a Neuro Opthmalogist and did the most thorough exam of me yet. He seemed to zero in on some numbness, or less than usual sensitivity in my LEFT foot and some issue with the ability to 'hear' vibration in my right ear. He remarked that my VEP was suspect for ms two years ago, but otherwise didn't feel i had to worry about ms right now! The ON isn't affecting my vision permanently, so he elected to not treat the ON and to only treat the pain. Thank goodness he's treating the pain! He gave me Indomethacin which is an anti-inflammatory to try for a month (morning and night) with a two week check in with him. If all is going well, i'll stay on it. If not he'll add something like the Maxalt back to the mix and try that. So even tho i'm still at 'wait and watch' i'm making strides in getting help!! I consider this a big breakthru and am very happy with the appt. When he was done he kissed his finger and put it over my eyebrow...i hope that has healing power!

It sounds like this visit went very well!  I hope you find some relief for your pain, and can move on to get a firm diagnosis, eventually!

I am so happy to hear you appt. went well and your doctor was awesome. I LOVE that he kissed his finger and did that to you. How sweet is that. There is nothing better than a doctor with some compassion. I'm so happy for you. Maybe he has the magic touch! I hope so my friend!

Hey Everyone

Thanks so much for u'r posts of support here! So far i'm still having pain in my eye, but this is only the second full day of this new med, so of course there hasn't been enuf time. I'm so hopeful that this will make a big difference for me in the long run. If it can only make the pain better i'm totally happy! As for his 'magic touch'...well he was very grandfatherly and referred to me as sweetie and baby...so i suspect he's a very loving and compassionate person as u've all guessed. I feel pretty sure he'll do all he can to help and I'm so thankful for that and to have found him. As to the possible dx at some point...well who knows. I know at this moment in time i don't have ms. For now that has to be good enuf. IF i have to face that one day then i will be well equipped and will have many sweet, sweet friends to help me thru it. Thanks guys.

Well not definitely. His words were 'right now u don't have to worry about ms'. I took that to mean i'm still waiting and watching, but at the moment i don't have it...at least not dx'd. That's good news too!! Not having it AND having ON could be the worst it gets. It gets to the point that u choose...either u sull and worry about what may or may not be or u decide that the current situation is what it is and rejoice in what good there is. I choose to rejoice in today and the NON-dx of ms. If it's ms or anything else then that's what it'll be and THEN i'll deal with it. Easy to say now that i'm thru that little scare, huh? No matter, i'm happy with the here and now. I am doing quite well and seldom have any probs with my old symptoms. If i do i can easily manage with them and go on. So whatever the long term of this, for now i'm good.
