What book to read????

I was looking in the link for the bookstore and see lots of books on MS.  Maybe some of you could enlighten me on a couple of the better ones for someone like me that is newly diagnosed?

There are several here who've suggested some, tho i can't recall any specific names just now. My best friend read one that was fantastic. She and i talked a lot about it while she was reading and i learned a lot about ms and how it affects people thru her experience with it. It is much like a workbook in ways. There are questions to ask u'rself. I think u'd really like it. Maybe the name is 'MS and Me' ?? I can't really remember, i'm sorry. I'm sure others will be here soon to give u their suggestions too. The book Rhonda was referring to is "MS And Your Feelings." The author is Allison Shadday. It deals with the emotional impact of ms. I have to admit that I did not read all of the chapters, but did find some of them insightful, although I did not do the exercises.

Hi gang ,

Just thought I would let you know, I am currently reading the 'Power is knowledge ' 6 week series about MS. I just called my local MS Society chapter and they will send it to you for free. The first series came with a neat DVD, very informative. It talks about the MS diagnosis, treatment plans, drugs and dealing with friends and family and well, just plain understanding MS. I happen to already have it on the way.  I just registered last week with my local MS chapter.  Thanks so much for the response.  All of this can be very overwhelming.  Now if I can just get my anxiety under control I will be ahead of the game.  That is day by day.

I do not have a diagnosis, but after a bout of ON, I read this book:

Multiple Sclerosis- New Hope and practical Advice for people with MS and their families by Louis Rosner and Shelley Ross

I was given this book (also good) Multiple Sclerosis- The First Year by Margaret Blackstone

I figured I would arm myself with knowledge since there was a large waiting period between the dx of ON and the MRI.  I don't regret reading either book, even without a dx.  I particularly liked the first one.

I have read a handful of books, one in particular that I think everyone should have is "MS for Dummies". also another is "Facing the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis" by: Jeffrey N. Gingold. Also Montel Williams "Climbing Higher" is a good one.

Good luck, there's alot out there.

I have read an interesting book called Living with MS by Professor Jelenyck.  What I think is really good about this book is that it is written by a doctor of intensive medecine whose mother had MS (& was the reason he became a doctor) and now he has it.  He assesses all the drug options and alternative options available and tells you his choice and why.  Its not a big book and an easy read.  Although he lives in Australia he does have a website.  Love and light to all.
