HELP!! What DO you do for PAIN?????

I need some serious help. Whay do you do for your MS pain?? I have recently had a serious relapse, the pain has been off the charts and I feel like I am being brushed off by my neuro. I want to know what others do in this situation. My newest lesion is on C5 and it is HUGE and I have problems holding my head up with the pain. I have even thought of punching the wall to try and distract me from the head/neck pain---it is that bad! I see my doc and have a follow up MRI on Friday and I want to go in there armed with info!! TIA!!

Shoot, I'm so sorry you're in so much pain and your neuro hasn't helped you out. They really need to take this seriously and try and find you some relief, that is just not okay! mad I think the type of pain you have will dictate the type of treatment most appropriate...i.e. is it from spasticity, burning pain etc. Check out the link below for some descriptions of different types of MS pain, and some of the associated meds. There are also a ton of other links at the bottom of the page. Maybe if you can describe your pain here, others can give you some additional suggestions.

Wow...i'm so sorry!! Pain is one thing i find hard to deal with. U seem to have an overload and no help from u'r neuro. Sunny's given u some excellent links! Please do try to find the description that fits u'r pain and the associated med and then give u'r doc a call. If he/she won't support u in this, consider calling u'r pcp for this med or even a new neuro. U simply cannot be left in pain with no support. Take care my friend and let us know how u are.

I'm sorry you feel brushed off by your doctor.  It's hard to tell someone's pain by looking most of the time, so if you can be as descriptive as possible on the type of pain and what it prevents you from doing it might help the doc to understand.  When you are talking about distraction that's a good indication, at least to me, that you got some high levels of pain cry  Hopefully the doc will help you out here.    Let us know how you are doing.

Hey Teresa,

Tell that doctor exactly what you have told us.  If he blows you off, then ask for a referral to a pain management doctor.  Let him know you are going to be assertive about getting relief.  And then do that.  Keep asking for pain relief.  There is not reason for you to suffer.  Pain is managable.  I hope you get some relief real soon.  Hang in there.

Thank you so much everyone!! I am trying to be well read before my MRI doc session tomorrow. He has actually suggested I go to a pain doc but more like he was saying- I can't help you, you need to go to someone else. It is frustrating! I want to go to a neurologist for the pain meds b/c I feel like most MS pain meds are used off their label uses. I went to one pain doc before and they just wanted to prescribe narcotics and nothing else... So I guess I got a turn against them....but you would think he would refer me to one that he thinks is a good one. UGH!!!! I am so going in armed with info tomorrow! Thank you so much Sunny for those articles. They are so informative........ Just what I am looking for!!!
