My husband was diagnosed with MS 5 years ago and has been on Rebif for 3 years. He now had a flare up and was told that he would be a good candidate for a drug study. The new drug he may take is cladribine or he may get a placebo. THis is a 2 year study. Has anyone ever heard of this drug or this study. He also complains about his legs do not feel like his legs. What does this mean and what should we expect? He never had his before. He is not in a wheel chair or hasn't had to use a cane. Any suggestions or what this might mean. from a concerned wife

I worry about being a guinea pig for these drug studies. Its is so experimental and you know nothing about the side effects. I have a MS acquaintance who was doing a MS drug study these past two years. Her doctor was unhappy that she was doing it because he said it had a reputation for causing cancer (?). Now she has breast cancer & is currently undergoing chemo & has stopped doing the study!

I understand the desire to try anything. I am taking LDN which has been used with positive results in the US for 10 years, has no side effects and is reputed to halt the progression of MS! I have been taking it for 3 months and am excited about the reduction in my spasticity.

There are also a group (see a thread on thisisMS) who say they have had great success taking antibiotics.

i wouldnt want to be the one that got the placebo, and getting no treatment, long term effects.......

I heard that the drug was more effective than the other crab drugs on the market. There were two similar drugs, and they are both in pill form and work a little different. One of them carries a risk of causing an auto-immune (Thyroid?) problem, and the other has a higher risk of causing infections. One traps white blood cells in the lymph nodes and the other blocks them some other way. I forget which is which.

There are always risks, but both drugs look promising. Its really up to you.
