Hi

I woke upthis morning room looked different kinda black and white

then I saw out in the room beam like lights like i was at a party with stobe lights?  this lasted let up 3 or 4 now sharp pain in back of head left side ocipitial (sp?) region 

Does this sound like it could be optic neuritis?  If so can a regular dr. look at my eyes and see anything,I mean it sure seems like an md should have a tool to look in one's eyes ?  thank u  (I'a lymie or a fibro my brother has lyme and ms)

It could be. You should see your eye dr asap just so they can see the nerve. I've had constant issues with it since Oct 09. I have permanent nerve damage in my left eye and even though there is some in my right eye it hasn't gotten as badly as the left. I think that my case is a little extreme. Most of the time it passes in a few weeks. I wish you luck.

Optic neuritic is when the optic nerve is being demylenated.  It can be seen by an opthalmologist most of the time.  They can see the optic nerve from looking into your eye.   Do get it looked at as soon as possible 

Remember to see an opthalmologist (an eye doctor) and not an optometrist (one who fits you for eye glasses).

I had optic neurits (no pain though) when I was pregnant so nothing could be done to stop it at the time. I saw an neuroopthamologist (my neurologist refered me) I had to sit and put my face in this machine where I could see a dot with a white background.

I had a button that I pressed whenever I saw flashes that they we making flash in different areas of my periferal. Based on my responses, they printed out a "map" of that parts of my eyes were effected by the optic neuritis. Black spots meant that I was unable to see well from different parts of my eyes.

My optomitrist today tells me that he can see the damage causes by the optic neuritis I had 10 years ago.

As other people said, only an opthamologist can diagnose and they have a fuller understanding of it.
