My neuro has been trying to diagnose me. I have been 2 years waiting for dx. 1 brain lesion, cerebellar atrophy, atrophy in two place in my cerebrum and halo on lateral ventricle. Every night for 2 years now I wake up sometimes several times a night with tight, squeezing chest pain, sometimes as low as below my bellybutton. I think this is the MS hug but it only happens when I sleep. I've had full cardiac workup and no problem was found except PVCs, PACs and left ventricular ectopic beat which doesn't explain these nocturnal pains. At first it woke me up every hour or so. Now only 2 or 3 times a night. Has anyone else experienced the MS Hug only while sleeping?

Hi balance24,
Thanks for your reply. It was very comforting to know what might be causing this symptom, but so sorry you have gone through this as well. Have you found anything to relieve the problem?

I actuallyw anted to ask the forum something about
this: I when I lie down to go to sleep sometimes (probably like every other night) get this feeling like my back is seizing up and it just holds and makes breathing a little hard. I usually can just wait it out and breathe into it until it fades away, it's not so painful as it is really uncomfortable. I always just assumed it was like my muscles just relaxing into... I don't know... the shape of my bed after a really long day on my feet, more of an over use issue than anything related to MS but seeing this post (I'd never heard of the MS hug before) made me wonder.
On the other hand I hate the idea of overdiagnosing myself, especially since it only happens when I go to lie down on my back (telling me it's got at least something to do with changing the shape of my spine). Can someone tell me I shouldn't be worried about
this?
I've been symptom free for about
2 years and I think I'm just getting paranoid that I've been lucky for too long. This fear is the worst part.

I am wondering if your "hug" felt like your internal organs were being crushed? I have not been dx'ed as of yet but having many symptoms including this organ crushing, rolling around into my back pain that wakes me up several times each night. Once I get out of bed and moving the pain stops.
