Mayo clinic

I can only speak from experience of MN clinic.  I will tell you first hand if you have already had medical work-ups by other Dr's including other hospitals and you are looking for a firm DX or second opinion they will not HELP! Period!   It's painfully obvious they will not step on other Dr.'s toes. Which is a complete joke because most of the time you are sent there by your Dr.'s back home because they need additional help in solving one's problem.   I wouldn't provide any home Dr. notes or tests to Mayo either even if requested. I believe your evaluation should be looked at as if you were never seen by anyone before. I have a Mayo write-up the size of a book, and all they did was copy what my other Dr.'s wrote in their office notes. In some cases word for word. What good does that do you? You are there for answers.    And regardless what anyone says including Mayo staff you shouldn't be on any of your meds when you make your visit for tests and consults. Mayo and others will tell you that’s not true! However, the meds weigh heavy into their equation during tests and examinations. They will list them as a possible causes or possible contributors to your condition or test results regardless!  It's like their fall back cushion when they do the patient write-up. They also hate dealing with anyone who has or is taken any pain meds long term. I was told by many long term use has not been studied therefore can be a contributor to a host of symtoms.  So I would also not disclose that information. Sad! But true!     I was seen by a Mayo General Neuro, Specialty Muscle Neuro, Fibro clinic and Rheumy as an outpatient both with several follow-up consults.  I had many, many tests over a 4 month period.  Most were considered experimental tests by many insurance companies so if those tests would have proven possible DX.  The DX wouldn't hold true in a court of law. Example SSD.   After my experience I DON"T see Mayo as a DX type clinic. And I would never ever recommend them for that!    They leave that up to your home DR.'s.  whether it's fear of law suit or just there pride, in the end after taking your money they will not rule on something that many home Dr.'s wouldn't or couldn't.   I do see them as a treating clinic! Meaning you have to walk in with the already condition untreated. Such as cancer!     JM2C

keep your appointment and make your own decision on the care you receive. don't miss the opportunity to get great care at a great world renowned clinic based on something you read on the internet. i have many friends and relatives in mn that have got wonderful care at mayo clinic and have never heard one bad word about the place, ever.
