What other illness causes Demyelination??

Just saw your post.I was diagnosed with MS when I was 17 only to find out recently, three years later that it is lyme disease.I have late stage lyme disease and apparently the two diseases have pretty similar presentations.I have lesions in my brain and my spinal tap,EMG  and nerve studies shows that a demyelinating type of neuropathy is predominant. I have been paraplegic for over two years now.

I know that you must be scared,believe me I know,but whatever it is,you will get through it.I say to myself everyday today is the day that I will move my toes,that hasn't happened yet but I'm sure not going to give up!

As someone who recovered from neurological Lyme, I can tell you that many tests for Lyme Disease (including the routine Western Blot) are inadequate...often producing false negative results and leading people down the wrong path...an IGENEX lab test is a good place to start if you haven't already explored that option.

Have you considered mild hyperbaric treatment?  It is how I became well (with a home chamber and supplemental O2).  You can start by reading "The Oxygen Revolution", by Dr. Paul Harch.  I think you will find his before and after SPECT scans impressive.  He also has a website:  hbot.com.

Many insurance companies don't cover IGENEX testing.  But beware...there is a saying among the Lyme community...it is:  "Hold the Mayo".  It is likely they use the standard testing (Western Blot), and are reportedly quite unhelpful for chronic Lyme.  Unfortunately, the same sentiment surrounds many Infectious Disease doctors, so one must find a LLMD (Lyme Literate MD).

It is not a given that you wouldn't have Lyme just because you've gone through asymptomatic periods.  Lyme symptoms are very unpredictable and bizarre.

At this point, I would highly recommend you read the book and visit the website that I mentioned in the above post...because your condition sounds highly treatable with mHBOT, whether or not it is Lyme.  I have a neurologist friend who runs a HBOT clinic, and she tells me about people with similar conditions who start treatments in a wheelchair, and by the end of the treatment period, are walking out of her office.  Sometimes she recommends that they obtain a home chamber for ongoing treatments if necessary.
