Fampyra/Ampyra

Has anyone used fampyra (here in Canada), Ampyra(in USA)? This is mainly used for walking and balance. If so, has it been beneficial and in what way?

      yes i use ampyra.  been on it since its approval(jan. 2010).  it is the only ms med i ever responded to. and i responded very well.  walking speed was the criteria in its clinical trials.  truth is, it works where you have the most damage.  it helps me with heat, fatigue, spasticity, and walking.  it works best for progressive forms of ms.

     barbarann,  compounding pharmacies can make it for you.  ask your dr for a rx for 4 aminopyradine. 

To all who replied to my post about fampyra, thanks for your input! Bad Mojo, I am so sorry that (f)ampyra didn't help you. I did a double blind study here in Halifax to determine if it effects on other MS issues rather than only balance and walking. I waited for 4 long months after finishing the study to find out whether I was on fampyra or a placebo! I hoped I was on the placebo because if I had been on fampyra then it didn't help me at all. It turned out that I was on a placebo and I was so excited to see what the actual fampyra would do for me! I can truthfully say that it is the one and the only MS med that has ever helped me! I feel like a different person. I started with R and R MS many years ago and then moved on to progressive MS about 5 years ago. Walking and balance are better, heat tolerance is better, spasms, pins and needles, and pain (especially trigeminal pain) and fatigue are greatly reduced. I have no insurance and Nova Scotia health care doesn't cover it! Hopefully it will be covered soon! Take care all.
