For those who have the fishy smell it is best to stop eating anything at all with fish in it (even a teensy bit in eg sushi), and also the onion group. (even garlic)! I found these were the major triggers to bring on the smell and it would be instant. The smell then would take a whole week to disappear once I stopped eating these foods. I really miss my onion family but I don't like smelling of fish!
This of course is a quick answer and not a cure. Kim831 has already kindly posted information on trimethylamine on pg 3 and there are lists of food to avoid out on the net to help prevent triggering this particular problem. I'm sure everyone will find that they have different foods to avoid than each other, but I think fish would be an all rounder and maybe the onions. We are all different in reaction though.
