I have an appointment with a neurologist Dec 5 but until then I'd like to bounce this off anyone that understands MS. I'm 62 year-old female so I know that puts me in tiny minority for having MS.
Last July 2016 MRIs revealed 4 herniated disks in my neck. I went to a local surgeon (i.e. Quack) who wanted to operate and fuse C4/5/6 and told me I had a more serious problem at C7/T1 but could not guarantee her could get to it. I found two excellent surgeons (published, teachers, etc). So my 2nd and 3rd opinion was C4/5/6 did not need fixing (just age related damage) but C7/T1 was severe herniation. I choose Surgeon #2 and received an artificial disk in December- went great. This whole time waiting for surgery I was in horrible pain on strong pain meds.
2016 July to December: neck and right arm pain, numbness in right arm and fingers. On a lot of Oxycodone.
2016 December: Surgery artificial disk C7/T1, all right arm & finger numbness gone.
2017 Jan - June: Weaning off pain meds, nausea, vomiting, lots of muscle spasms, fatigue, diarrhea, body aches insomnia, high BP. (Had NO IDEA there was this much involved weaning off meds).
2017 July: Started walking to get in shape. I fell three times, once tearing my knee meniscus, extreme fatigue, muscle spasms continue. I moved in temporarily with a friend to rest knee. Refuse to take any pain meds.
The muscle spasms are daily in my right forearm and both hands. My hands turn in to claws. Also in legs.
2017 September/ October: Working on a computer in bed started having neck pain again. Numbness and tingling in left arm, two finger and thumb, muscle spasms in both hands, I go back to surgeon and he still doesn't think I need surgery but keeps ordering more test. Pica.
2017 October: All neck pain gone! Left arm still numb and tingling with two fingers and thumb.
NEW: Spasm in mouth caused slurred speech only a few minutes, occasional dizziness, spasms in hands worse, floaters. ENG was done no disturbance in nerve conduction, insomnia, DEBILITATING fatigue, Pica.
2017 November: First week still numb left arm but went away. Muscle spasms in right hand and arm, and trouble speaking. insomnia, night sweats, DEBILITATING fatigue much worse found out ferritin was 6. Getting iron infusions next week. Muscle tightness in mouth caused slurred speech for a few minutes. Pica worse.
SCARIEST: The spasm in my mouth happened once with a few minutes of slurred speech. A second time I felt a tightness like I was login to get a spasm and only had slurred speech. That day I went to ER. He told me I need to se a Neurologist. Appointment scheduled Dec 5.
Thanks for reading. Any thoughts?
Appreciated.
