Hi!  I am new to this site though not new to MS...currectly my exacerbation it a complete feeling on numbness on both sides of my body...I am fully functional...just feel extremely weird...my doctor said it was tatitically impossible to feel it on BOTH sides of my body...but I DO...I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience...thank you!~

It certainly is not impossible and your doctor is not very clever for saying that. USUALLY the MS lesions occupy only part of the spinal cord, which is why the numbness typically occurs in a focal distribution (ie, one side of body). However, lesions certainly can occupy the large sections of the spinal cord and cause symptoms to occur on your most of your body. This disease follows no rules and, as you probably know, anything can happen. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I'm glad you're fully functionally but I nonetheless know how annoying it can be.

You need a different doctor. I've been numb from mid-torso to toes, **in both leg**** for..oh..the last 23 years. Indeed it started in one leg...but quickly moved up (my left side), into my torso, then down my right leg. And I experience other "all body" sensations directly related to my having MS, all the time.

Hi gaia,

Welcome! I just read your reply to another thread and I have to say you definately handle all of this quite well :-) As for numbness on both sides, it is certainly not impossible to have happen. I hope your flare doesn't last too long, keep us updated.

Thank you all, for your replys....I talked to my doctor again and he said that he didn't mean it NEVER happens but that it rarely happens...or whatever...I actually have always liked my doctor because he is pro diet and fish oil.....I live in a SMALL town and there aren't a lot of options.....but thank you all for your commects...I love this group...I'm glad I finally connected-gaia

I think I am going to write a book called:

" IT RARELY HAPPENS" or "IT DOESN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY" or
"MS, THE REAL TRUTH EXPOSED"

Gee, I would never get past the first page: (LOL)

MS has only general perimeters which change depending on who you talk to, and produces different things in everyone !
