Hi Folks,

Have any of u ever been so tired you felt dizzy? That's the way I feel today. My eye seems to be getting worse. I can't seem to focus very well on anything. I have to be looking at something straight on or I see double and if I move my head too fast that makes me dizzy too. I have an appointment this afternoon with my dr. Maybe he'll be able to give me something to help. Well, I'll go for now. i just needed to talk about how I was feeling.

I know for sure with my own symptoms that they worsen or intensify when i'm tired. I recently realized this was why i seemed to be having more balance probs in the evening. If u push to do things that u'r body isn't able to keep up with this will happen. U can also find things more intensified without being tired, but certainly being tired makes it worse. Going thru all that u have so recently...all the stress that brings...can also make u tired or u'r symptoms worsen. Are u seeing a neuro this afternoon? I do hope he's able to help with this and other symptoms u'r having. Please come back and let us all know how it went. Best wishes!

Hey!!!

I went to my neuro this afternoon. He thinks that on top of everything else I may have some kind of sleep disorder. I was asleep when he came into the treatment room where I was waiting. He is going to send a note to my md that I need to have a sleep study done. He's probably right because I don't sleep very well. We talked about my MS therapy and decided that avonex would be the best for me to start with for now. He said that I may have had the MS for as much as ten years. That's true. Before '03 I had only had one MRI way back in the '80s when they were first coming out. When I had the one in '03 the dr asked me had I ever had a stroke because the radiologist mentioned in his report that my brain looked like I had some old lesions that were caused by a stroke. I asked my neuro and he said that MS lesions are very often mistaken for stroke. I didn't think anything about it because I had a car accident in '83 that caused a head injury. I just thought it was caused by my old head injury.

Seems like sleep disorders are common with folks with MS. I happen to not be in that category -- when I go to bed I sleep like a rock for 4 hours or so, then a potty break, then another couple of hours -- but lots of folks with MS seem to find that they do have a sleep disorder, and once that's treated, feel better! (Not that it affects their MS..but it can help with fatigue issues.) I hope you get all this sorted out and on medication soon!

I usually go to sleep pretty good. Then, like you I wake up for a potty break but I don't usually go back to sleep. Sometimes, I have trouble getting to sleep, or I wake up long before my alarm goes off. I am going to have my first avonex shot Thursday. Hopefully my eye will start to improve. I had an appointment with another dr today and when I started walking over to get on the bus the muscles in my legs sarted hurting. What's that??? My balance felt a little off too.I walk with a walker because of my old injury and i'm glad because if I hadn't had it to hold onto I think I would have fallen. I don't understand. I thought it was just making me tired and messing with my eye. Do I need to let my neuro know or just wait until I go in for my shot Thursday? I hope it's just that my legs were tired from standing too long.

Hi Mesea,

 

    You  might be experiencing something called spasticity which is pretty common with MS.  It is an involuntary stiffness or spasms in the muscles and can vary in intensity.  It can probably wait til you see your doc on thursday unless its something that is very troublesome or severe. 

    Glad to hear you are starting Avonex!  Please let us know how that goes and I do hope you start to feel better soon.

Maybe my legs were just tired because they feel better now. My balance is still a little off though.

Rhonda, I think you may be right about symptoms being worse when your tired. I've been feeling a bit better today. Now that I'm getting tired my eye is starting to blur and I'm getting the needle-like pains in it. The double-vision never really goes away. I guess I going to have to figure a way to work some rest time into my days when I'm at work. Thanks for your explanations for things I don't understand yet. I'm trying to read and learn everything I can, but I think I may be having some cognitive problems too. I find that I'm having trouble remembering things and understanding technical things. Sometimes when I'm talking to someone I want be able to come up with the word that I need. Luckily, so far I'm able to find another word that will fit. I'm so glad that I found this forum because I'm working out what I need to tell my dr. Thanks.

Glad u'r feeling some better!! The balance is an ongoing prob for me too. I'm sorry to say that it may not go away. It may, but mine hasn't. It's different with everyone. Today and yesterday i've said some of the stupidest stuff! My words are hard to recall sometimes, but very often it's like i combine words. Beginnings of one word with the body of the next word in my sentence. Or maybe even the wrong word totally. It's so fun to open u'r mouth and just see what's gonna come out! hahaha Memory is another of my biggest probs...cognitive functions...aren't they fun! And yes, even the understanding or following of things like stories or instructions...those are all part of the overall cognitive probs and may go away, but may take their time doing so...or may not go away. Don't get discouraged or feel down. We're all going thru this with u and u'r in the right place for support and answers. Ask as many questions as u want and can think of. We're all here to answer and learn along the way as well..and we're very glad u'r here!

I just thought of another question. Have any of you had a rash or something that itched a lot.? The dr. that I was seeing at the time was convinced because I had been going around the Slvation Army Homeless Shelter (I was a bellringer at Christmas) that i had scavvies. Even though none of the meds for that he gave me worked. Another dr gave me something for the itching and after a while the rash just went away. Now, about once every two months or so a small dime-size section ofmy left shoulder starts itching and trning red. Then, after about 2or 3 days I get the same itching and red rash on my face. Is this a symptom of MS? Also, my skin is very very dry.

Well a rash isn't a typical symptom of ms, but itching can be. There are other things that have the tell tell sign of a rash and some (for example) are lyme or lupus. Someone else on here recently questioned hives or a rash, tho i can't recall now who it was. (darned memory!) I'd prob go back to my doc and when the rash presents itself again and let them see it if u haven't already. It does sound like maybe u'll need further treatment..maybe something orally like an antibiotic. U might try googling scavvies rash, lupus rash and lyme rash in images to see if u see u'r own rash. Best wishes on this and i hope it's not causing u too much discomfort.

Hi Mesea,

Take a picture of any rashes you get, if you can. Rashes have a funny way of disappearing just before a doctor visit.

Thanks for the advice Mezazinine. I don't have a camera right now but I'll to get one. That's a good idea. You're right. Every time I had a rash and made an appointment it was gone before the time came.
