Hi

Anybody ever hear of or use this drug voriconazole?  thanks

Well are u using this drug?? Has it been prescribed to u?? The infrmation i've found says this med is prescribed to treat fungal infections primarily, but in other immunocompromised patients as in organ transplants.

I can't find anything that suggests this would be used to treat people with MS. As Rhonda said, it's used as a treatment for a variety of fungal diseases.

hi thanks one and all really appreciate you substantiating what i had read. I put the question out just to be sure no one with Lyme or a co-infection had taken it. four out of five of my siblings are sick. The one on the fungal medicine has lost sight in his left, i think left eye and has these papules on face body scalp that ooze out black stuff. He is being treated at U of M I just don't see how so many adult kids in one family could be sick. the only common denominator is all of us with exception of my oldest brother worked on the farm as both kids and adults we had a big poultry operation. Chan's doing better I guess but its slow the med is whipped up once a week and has to be picked up fresh. he gets new batch every week. I guess as one of my old wise friends said (not pertaining to this) "Lise u are not going to have answers for everything and u will go nuts trying." She is right. They just don't know what caused this "fungal" infection or even what kind it is but for goodness sake he's blind in one eye . I'll let it go except to get a complete list of what meds he is on on the chance one is an antibiotic as fungi does not respond to that, to my rather limited knowledge then i'll let it rest. Again thank u I hope and pray for all of you to get well and leave that nasty borrelia crap in the past, never to return !!! lisa

Never heard of this particular med and I think I understand less now than at the beginning of the thread... at least I think I do understand it's not pertinent to MS, at least I surely hope not, nothing I've ready yet, indicates fungi have anything to do with MS.

You are indeed correct I just wanted to double check and make double sure it had not been prescribed for a lyme patient or an MS patient I know it is an anti-fungal and sometimes used in organ transplants and research says fungus has nothing to do with lyme or MS possibly with the exception of the 3 being autoimmune Again I was just trying to figure out why my one brother was double diagnosed MS and Lyme the other lyme myself lyme (had rashes) but possible MS and then the other brother has some crazy fungal infection eating him up. (he is on the voriconozole) Its rather bizarre but let me get this right (tired make LOTS of blunders, tipped plate over today at funeral dinnner oops!!!!) I hope and pray all of you become better go into remission and kick the MS (not lyme) disease, my blunder thats what i get for asking the same question on twp different forums., mixed up!!! I know it has been suggested some MS may have actual underlying lyme but the reverse is true also sometimes maybe MS is diagnosed as lyme. this happened to my brother and actually me but with my brother the two differing drs. were getting pretty hot about it. Thanks for the well wishes but you should know - no one "kicks" MS.  It is permanent and, so far at least, incurable.  Lyme disease is curable if it is caught early enough.

I am sorry I did not mean to be offensive at all, I just pray you will enjoy more good than bad days, a young woman I know has ms and has been blessed enough for it to like go in remission? I do not know much about it except it is awful. My brother struggles with walking but Thank God he can still walk and he struggles with speech and even has had people think he was drinking! In fact, he walks from his trailer to my folks house and this sherrif stopped him and spoke with him and actually somehow ended up being explained to by my other brother and mom that hei is ill that what she thought was drunk walking was just his gait, actually thinking about that day just makes me so mad and yet so sad so again it was terrible it was a woman sherrif and she like was accusing him of being drunk and he was not. I love him very much as i love all people and I only meant well I am sorry I posted this question it was a mistake but sometimes real people can give someone a more accurate answer than any periodical journal and I just wanted to double triple check this med for my brother, the one that is blind in one eye and is in danger of losing the other the one, on the med voricanizole.

I was not offended at all.  I was just clarifying for you.  What you say is remission is a normal stage in this disease.  There are different types of MS and the most common form (upon initial diagnosis) is relapsing-remitting.  That means there are times when the progression of the disease has stopped for the time being.  That stage of remitting or remission, unfortunately, does not last.  MS, for most of us, comes in cycles which can result in an increase in symptoms and disability. 

I am very sorry to hear about your brother.  Many of us suffer from the inability to walk without looking drunk.  Does your brother have an official diagnosis?  If he does, he may want to carry his doctor's business card or a short letter verfying his condition so he can explain his gait problems more easily.  Some people with MS also have slurred speech.  This can cause the same problem.
