Hey y'all:

There was a blurb in today's Boston Globe (from Bloomberg News) about the use of stem cells  in helping those living with recurring/remitting MS, in the earlier stages at least, to actually REVERSE the progression of the MS but also help eliminate symptoms of this kind of MS!!!! Has anyone heard or know about this study, conducted at Northwestern Univ. in Chicago??? Is it worth it for me to contact my neurologist about this???? (Oh heck, I know I'm going to call anyway, regardless.)

Comments, opinions, knowledge???

Hi Steph57, this Dennis, aka denjski.........that has been the promise of stemcells for all dieases, and its still a long way off.

If you want to start doing something for yourself now, start taking vitamin D3....The reports being published now have prove that a lack of vitamin D3 is a significant factor in causing MS....doctors have stopped and cleared EAE, a MS model that can be created in mice brains, by adding vitaminD3

These reports are coming in from Harvard, NIH, Berekely and Johns Hopkins....

do a search on D3, and read for yourself

Thanks for the D3 tip. I saw my PCP yesterday and demanded that he do a full scan on ALL of my vitamin D levels. I also printed out various articles about this (was it you who provided a link? I can't remember) and will discuss with my neurologist, along with the stem cell study info, on Monday. Interestingly, my husband and I had just watched a recent episode of "Eleventh Hour," and the storyline involved use of stem cells (in the episode-as it related to treat Leukemia).

Geez, I just love science!

Hey Steph

To kinda be clear for everyone on stem cell....just in case.... Stem cell research is so exciting and so broad in it's ability to help because it is something that has the ability to become anything we need it to become. It can become cells of the brain...nervous system...muscular system...etc. It has MUCH promise in that way. So given the proper research and time, it has lots of promise for us all in many areas. It is essentially like saying here is some flour...now go bake something. I do hope it can bring some much needed answers for ms.

Hi all,
Yes Vit D is very NB and youre right it must be Vit D3, my dr says
Vit D3 is apparently absorbed is much more easily than Vit D2. wink
