it is now 430 am, and i have been up all night with constant muscle twitches in my legs and arms and eyes, so much that my eyes are hurting. and charlie horses. i have not gotten half an hour of sleep despite 2 doses of benadryl. is there anything over the counter i can take for this?? my primary md wont give me any medication until i see the neurologist, but thats not till june 12th, i am on a cancellation list tho. please help shakehead

I can't think of any OTC meds that would help with the twitching, unless maybe Robaxacet or Robaxacil? I don't know where you live, or if you have these meds available to you where you are, but they are OTC here in Canada. These are muscle relaxants with either Acetamenaphine in them or Apirin. I personally don't think they compare to the prescription meds, but if you have nothing.......On the other hand, I don't know what you take the benadryl for and I would not mix it with anything else. What is the benadryl supposed to do for you? I thought it was for allergic reactions. Is it supposed to help you sleep?
Maybe you could get to a natural health store and see if they have a safe herbal remedy, but again - bad idea to mix your beadryl with herbal stuff.
I'm trying to help you here without giving you bad advice that could hurt you, so I will just wait until you respond and let us know what the benadryl is for, and whether or not you have to take it before telling you that you could try something else. So sorry you are suffering. Whatever you end up doing, please talk to a pharmacist before doing it?

Hey, thanks for the post, benadryl is for allergies and sleep, its also in things like tylenol pm--the pm is benadryl. all i really want to do is knock myself out, i literally got maybe 15-20 mins of sleep, its headed down the same road for tonight. i cant really take any kind of herbal medications because i take a heart med, and there usually not compatable. i dont think we have those 2 meds otc here, im in new york. i am going crazy, this is a new symptom for me, i have not been diagnosed with anything yet, i have yet to see a neurologist, my appt is in june :(.

You really do have to be careful with a heart condition for sure. I hope your appointment in June is helpful and that you leave with a prescription for relief. Sometimes I can litterally stay up all night and never get tired and I find this quite annoying but I know if I even try to go to bed when I feel like this, it would be even more frustrating, so my next day is usually just a write-off and I try to enjoy my all nighter as best I can (playing scrabble at club pogo - ha ha). I try to find the positive in a restless night, like the thought of not hearing any sound from one child, spouse or even pet for an entire 8 hour period. Obviously if you have to be up and busy the next day though, this isn't so good. I'm not sure why, but some of my most excrutiating nerve pain happens at night and wakes me from sleep. Then there is the night time muscle spasm that causes you to wake up screaming and punching at yourself in a panic to make it go away. It's frightening and it makes me leary about falling back to sleep. I found a website that describes the ingredients in all available OTC muscle relaxants, and they appear to be available to the U.S., but again, I am just letting you know so that you can read about them. I don't know what you can take with your current meds. The info I found was at back-pain-relief website (hyphens between each word). It has a page of all muscle relaxant type meds that are available and whats in each of them.
