Hi everyone, hope everyone is feeling well ....as well as possible.

I have a quick question, I keep reading conflicting information.

Six months ago I lost my eyesight in one eye for about half an hour and it was later very painful, like bruised, and blurry for a couple of weeks. In the last three months I have bee having flashes of lights and fireworks when I try to get to sleep. The flashes are large and then shrink and start again. It lasts for at least a couple of hours. Is this benign or could it be associated with ON. What are your experiences with ON.

My experience with optic neuritis: I woke one morning to slight blurred vision in one eye. It got worse over the course is 3 days. The blurring got worse but more than that, the color was lost. It was like sepia vision. Things got whiter and eventually it was looking through a dense fog.

There was some pain associated with movement. Like someone was pushing on my eye. Pain/pressure. I received 5 days of solumedrol. It took 4 and a half months for my vision to return. The optometrist and the opthalmologist can still see the damage to my optic nerve upon examination.

You should seek medical attention as soon as possible. I would recommend a neurologist who specializes in MS and a neuro-opthalmologist. An MRI should be ordered to determine if the optic nerve has been demyelinated. Often, but not always, ON can be seen. It depends upon which part of the optic nerve has been damage. Not all of the optic nerve is visible.
