SEEKING A NEUROLOGIST FOR MS WHO IS ALSO LYME LITERATE IN WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY

I have been diagnosed with MS since 1989 after having a Bulls Eye Rash but a negative Lyme titer at that time. My diagnosis is based on demyelination plaques on my MRI. I have since received a positive LD result from Stony Brook and Ingenex labs as well as a spinal tap and was treated in 2006 with rocephen for 30 days.

My symptoms persist. I recently saw a Dr. at the New York Medical College Lyme Disease Center who follows the ID guidelines and totally discounts any history of LD. I have an appointment with a MS specialist next week in White Plains, NY but I have read that treating MS when it is really chronic or post-LD can be dangerous.

Are MS doctors familiar with symptoms of Lyme Disease?

I should add that my husband was also diagnosed with MS (coincidentally) and passed away in July from complications. He did have MS but I believe it may have started with LD and he had so many other unexplained symptoms.

My insurance will not cover a LLMD Internist because I have a PCP but will cover a special who is on my plan. Participating drs are mostly in lower to mid-Westchester County, NY.

elenacook, your information in linking MS and Lyme's disease is wrong. It is not an important discovery as it has been researched long before now. Findings have proven it to be an insignificant amount of people and is considered RARE in MS

It is possible to have both Lymes disease and MS as it is possible to have other conditions and MS.

There is a diagnostic criteria for MS and one of the diagnostic tests is a Lumbar Puncture to test the spinal fluid. If someone had borrelia it would have been found. Rarely is this the case and if it is the then person is usually suspected of having Lyme's Disease and not MS.

There are those who have been misdiagnosed with MS when in actuality they had Lyme's disease.

I was actually just Diagnosed with Lyme in December.

I'll reserve my theories for another thread but i will say this; I think there may be multiple pathogenesis of the onset of the disease, MS.
