Hi! I’m a 71 year old female and haven’t posted on HW for some time. Was active on the Lupus forum for years till my lupus went quiet. Have been on the fibromyalgia forum for severe fibromyalgia.
I have widespread osteoarthritis, esp in need and feet.
Many many years ago I had a sleep study and was prescribed 1,200 mg of Gabapentin, and have been taking it since then. Close to 20 years.
A month or two ago I decided to wean off the Gabapentin slowly & asked my internist For a substitute sleep aid. She prescribed trazadone & I’m sleeping like a baby. However....very quickly after I stopped taking neurontin, my pain increased substantially. I have joint pain In all of my joints from arthritis, pain from Raynoes in my feet, Don’t think I have joint pain from lupus right now, Then the fun one which is widespread pain from fibromyalgia.
I currently don’t take any meds for my pain. I get fairly good relief for the hour I spend daily in a hot tub.
After researching what kind of pain is helped by Gabapentin, I discovered that it doesn’t relieve arthritis pain but doses of over 1,200 can help neuropathic pain. I’ve never been diagnosed with diabetes nor have I ever had high sugar levels.
My immediate concern is severe pain in both feet and pretty bad pain in both legs. I thought I had a stress fracture in one foot but xray was negative. I’m having great difficulty walking.
I’m just looking for answers to why the neurontin must have been helping me so much. I looked up MS and Dr Google only mentioned one other symptom that I have which if falling, tripping, and losing my balance.
Any ideas or suggestions?
