signs of weak immune system at young age?!?

Am wondering if any of you with MS ever had a problem with plantar warts, yeast infections and or thrush when you were younger prior to your MS diagnosis or any sexually activity?? Sorry for being so personal but can't help but wonder how many us with ms could have had " an active" hpv virus in us long before being sexually active, hearing about hpv or its vaccine. Thank you

So, if you have MS you do not have a weakened immune system. Those with MS have a compromised immune system or some would say "confused." MS is a disease of the Central Nervous System(CNS) which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. The disease attacks Myelin, the protective coating surrounding the nerves which can cause a whole host of Neurological symptoms.

This disease does not cause planter warts, yeast infections, or thrush. I have had symptoms of MS since childhood and diagnosed at the age of 23 and have never had any of the issues you mentioned.

Sorry if my post confused you but if you didn't have any warts or yeast infections prior to MS not sure why you replied. As I am sure you know one of the risk factors for yeast infections and warts is people with weakened immune systems. There has been a variety of viruses linked to MS and can't help but wonder if there is a link between MS and HPV virus(not vaccine. I know 3 people with MS, all 3 of them had yeast infections and plantar warts (which means HPV) when they were kids and 10+years later diagnosed with MS..

Multiple Sclerosis isn't a weakened immune system. Some would say that those with MS have a robust immune system. Some of the long term treatments for MS are immune-suppressants. Do you take any of the Disease Modifying Treatments?

At this time there is no definitive cause for MS, this has been the case since the 1400's. The Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) is the only virus, at this time, that might have a connection in developing Multiple Sclerosis. However, EBV has also been linked with other possible conditions. Approximately 95% of the population has had EBV, but 95% of the population does not have MS. At this time HPV has not been linked to developing MS. Plantar warts, Yeast infections, and Thrush can be due to many things but MS is not one of them.

“A robust immune system” is a great way of putting it. As an elementary school teacher, I was constantly exposed to everything those darling pathogens carriers brought into the classroom. I rarely got sick. If I did, I kicked it on 2-3 days. When I showed symptoms of MS, (didn’t know what it was for several weeks) my primary doctor noted that it had been 2 years since he’d seen me. I was just never sick. I’m still rarely sick with things like colds or flu.

Hello Gretchen. Wow. It has been forever. Seriously. I am glad to see you are still around. I am well. Not often do I get sick either. When I do catch a cold my healthy but confused immune system goes after me instead of the cold. So I end up having the cold longer than normal. When I get a cold my symptoms do flare.
For those who do not know me I have been posting here since 2006. Then a new MS guy. Gretchen was here every step of the way teaching me anything I wanted to know about MS. Cheers! Have a nice day.
