Numb tongue and weird head feeling

For the past few days, I've had increasing problems with numbness and tingling in various parts of my body, especially the right side of my face, my right arm, and my right leg.  I've also had numbness of the right side of my chin and bottom lip for the past year.

Today, my whole tongue started tingling and went numb for several seconds.  It's happened several times tonight since then.  It's almost impossible to talk when it happens. 

Oh, and all evening, I've felt like I have a snug band over the top of my head.  (I've had that feeling several times in the past month too.)

Has anyone else had this problem?  I haven't been dx with MS yet (just hanging out in Limboland for God knows how long!)  Also, with MS, can the numbness and tingling come and go, or does it pretty much stay for days or weeks?

Yes, I've had all those weird sensations!  They can come and go and usually do.  However, if you're in a flare they can stay for weeks to days.

 

I can't recall (sorry) are you keeping a log of all your symptoms?  I hope you don't live in limboland too long, the cost of living is too high there! :-)

Another yes here. When you say "come and go", do you mean like within a few minutes...a brief tingling and then it goes away? Or "come and go" over a period of hours, or days?

Usually for something to be considered a symptom of MS, it has to remain for around 24 hours...or happen regularly over the course of 48 hours (come and go during that time, but occur often). At any rate, you should be noting this, and if it is new to you, a call to your doctor is in order.

Uppitycats, the numbness in my tongue lasted for about a minute or two, but came back four or five times over the next 24 hours. (The facial numbness I've had on the right side of my chin and bottom lip has been there constantly for over a year now.) The numbness on the right side of my face, arm, and leg has been going on for several days, each time lasting a minute or two and occurring around ten to twenty times each day.

Is that typical?

There isn't much to MS that is "typical". All I can describe is my experience: When I get the facial numbness, it sometimes includes numbness in the tongue, but it comes on, lasts for several hours, sometimes a day or two, and then slowly dissipates. I've been numb from mid-torso to toe for 23+ years now, sometimes with great intensity, more often with lesser intensity, but always present. The kind of numbness you describe, especially on your right side, sounds to me (and remember, I am NOT a doctor) more like a nerve impingement, or pressure, somewhere...
