I just called the MS specialist's office to get the results of my LP from last Tuesday.  The nurse said that the IGg and the protein and the oligoclonal bands were all normal. 

So I guess I don't have MS!! Which is great news! But then, what the heck is wrong with me?

Well i'm certainly glad the results indicate everything is normal and ok, but i do understand u'r frustration in wanting to know what's going on! I'm in limbo with u. Hang in there. As others have told me, if it's ms it WILL show up in time. Just keep documenting everything and treating u'r symptoms so as not to suffer in the meantime. Best wishes to u.

Sashi: I don't have the bands in my spinal cord,but I do have MS. Approximately 5% - 10% of MS pts do not have bands. Have you had an MRI? What were the results? I don't know what your symptoms are, but everyone has a right to know what is happening to their bodies. There are several conditions that mimic MS symptoms, so keep a record of your symptoms to help your MD make a determination. Good luck!

Very good info! I'm glad u shared that. U'r right, at times there is no indication in spinal fluid and other tests are relied on to point to ms. Usually (and i could be wrong so someone correct me if so) the lp is used to gain further evidence of things pointing towards ms rather than as a stand alone test. Thanks for bringing that into light for us all! I did a google search on ms mimics after someone else on here suggested that search and i came up with some interesting leads. There are certainly other illness' that need to be considered/ruled out before ruling in ms. It's so easy to get fixated on ms when u go thru all the tests and they all turn up neg or normal for everything, and that includes ms. When u've looked at everything and nothing 'fits' as well as ms tho, then u rest on ms. Lisa, please listen to Pegleg. Keep a record of all symptoms and report anything new or different to u'r doc as often as is needed. U have a lot of symptoms and new things cropping up all the time. U may also want to search ms mimics (just as i typed it worked for me) and see if u'r symptoms match any of the illness' listed. Mine didn't, but i'm glad i looked to be sure.

when I first started getting symptoms i thought i had fibromyalgia. they are very similiar to ms. You may want to look into that, also you might want to check out candida and chronic fatigue those sites will lead you to other conditions also. It may not fit your symptoms but its worth checking it out.

I'm probably going to get blasted here but I am going to say it anyway, check out lyme.  I had a MS dx for 6 years before I found out I have lyme.  I was tested for it early on but was never told that even if you have lyme there is only a 5-10% chance it will show in spinal fluid. There are Drs who specialize in lyme and if you do some research you will see treatment can be controversal.  

Several people in my family had lyme.  They caught it early had a month of abx and were fine.  This was what I knew about lyme.  Boy was I misinformed.  Lyme can be a serious neurological disease. Some MDs even think that the lyme bacteria can trigger other diseases like MS. 

Just passing along my experience.  Wish someone had suggested this to me, as I have many neuro problems now and my mobility is effected.

Hi Lisa,

 

    Good to hear your results were normal!  It does bring up the question though of what else could it be?  Frustrating road but don't give up hope on finding the cause.  You said earlier you've been testing for some other autoimmune diseases and lyme also, maybe you could ask your doctor if those might be worse retesting.  And you could also ask if there are other things that you haven't been tested for that might be worth looking into to.  Good luck and best wishes that you find your answer soon.
