Question for PEGLEG

My LP was negative, but MD stated that approx 10% of MS pts do not have lesions on the spinal cord. If you have 5 lesions like mine, I was told this will probably lead to the 9 giving you the diagnosis of MS. I was told that it may take time and depends on how many exacerbations you have. My MRI also showed periventricular leukomalacia. This disease in adults is similar to MS and usually develops into MS. I was also informed that my weakness, numbness, & tingling in leg & arm will not go into remission. I am again on steroids to try to control balance. It's just a 6 day dose and doesn't seem to be working. MD wants to schedule me for another MRI because of increase in symptoms and degree in progression. I only got through half of the EP before problems became worse and had to stop. I'm being scheduled for neuropsych test to determine which areas of the brain are permanently impaired. When I was informed of neuropsych, I thought they suspected I was crazy (haha)! It's performed by psychiatrist trained in MS. If ppsychiatrist is not fully trained, they can miss something (so MD informed me). Best thing to do is get pocket calendar to carry w/you, record all symptoms & what you were doing when symptoms occured. Have you had a vision test? I had trouble going down stairs (none going up). It appeared I was at bottom, took a step, and fell down rest of stairs. I also at times feel as if there is a slight film over lt eye. This is optic neuropathy (I'm informed by MD). There are also other things that can cause lesions on the brain and have to be ruled out (high blood pressure, etc). Do you have a BP machine at home? If not, some stores have them available for patrons use. Keep record of this also. Is your MD doing anything at the moment? Do you have high BP? Don't dispare. Now that I understand what is fully happening to me after a yr of full exacerbations, I feel content... there are no more questions & I know what's ahead of me (PT, OT, brace shop). I thought I would be upset, but I'm just relieved. My neuro MD has a neuro practice, but also teaches neurology at a university Med school. Keep in touch!
