Hi! I am feeling well this monrning and hope you all are the same.  I really enjoyed the chat room last night and would reccommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it before. 

 

I have been disabled for a long time and until recently was in pretty good health so the issue of prescriptions never came up before.  I am on Medicaid and in my state it only pays for 5 prescriptions.  I currently, have eight.  Some of which I can't afford to get right now.  I know there are programs out there that will help with this problem but don't know how to contact them.  If anyone could help me it would be most appreciated.  I live in Mississippi if that helps. Hi Mesea,

You might try contacting your doctor.  A lot of pharmacutical companies have programs for free or reduced prices for patients who can't afford their medications.  Your doctor should know of them.

U'r in Mississippi!?!? So am i!! What part, if u don't mind me asking? I'm around Laurel. As for prescription help, i use something called Together Rx. by Abbott Labs. Email me if u want and i'll get u the phone number to them. It pays really good on most of my prescriptions, but there are some that aren't covered (naturally). Another thing, I use Walgreens. They have an in-house program whereby they apply u'r own ins/rx help and then apply their own program afterward, in addition. They do so without asking...just automatically. I do have prescription ins, but it's a discount thing rather than actual ins (shame on us for not being clear on that!) and we only get 2% off, so it's not even worth bothering with. I'm not sure of anything else, but if i hear of anything else i'll be sure to let u know.

You might also talk with your doctor to see if indeed you need all those meds, or if there are some that you could eliminate, or if because you are on so many different drugs, that the combination is doing you more harm than good. Sometimes doctors get carried away with prescribing all sorts of things without paying attention to what the patient is already taking.

(I do have MS; have had it for 24 years. I take Betaseron, oxybutanin, and over-the-counter ibuprofen...)

Dear uppitycats,

There may be a couple I can get off of but I have several different conditions and some of my meds are necessary. Oh that I could go back a few years when nothing was wrong with me. Then, I wouldn't need any meds and this wouldn't be a problem. Hey I'll figure it all out.

Montel Williams has a prescription assistance program that he promotes as well. I have called them before and they were very good at directing me to who I needed to talk to specifically for a specific medication. You can find the phone number on Montel Williams website as well.
