Does a normal EMG rule out MS? Mine was normal this morning (except for being diagnostic of severe carpal tunnel syndrome in my left hand.)
Thanks.
No. An EMG is testing for *peripheral* nerve damage -- nerve transmission problems in your extremities...and while you say it was "normal", you go on to say that there was a "diagnos(is) of severe carpal tunnel syndrome in your left hand"...which would indicate that indeed the EMG was NOT normal, at least in that left hand. The peripheral nervous system can work well if a person has MS, because the problem is not in those nerves, but in the transmission of signals from the brain (or spinal cord) -- the central nerves -- to the peripheral nerves.
MS is a disorder of the *central* nervous system, and would not appear on an EMG. So in your case, the EMG showed that there was a problem with your left hand (which can cause tingling, buzzing, weakness, and other problems, not just in the hand, but in the wrist and up the arm).
