Hey Everyone!

I wanted to let u guys know i finally tried the new med and it's GREAT!!! I was in town with my girls last night and i began to get that familiar eye pain again and decided not to wait on my husband to bring me some med...i went by and got one of those tablets myself...at $28!!!...and took it home. I was very cautious about taking it tho. Sometimes the pain will start but not continue and get to that full blown pain level that's so bad. So i sat and waited last night...for the pain. It progressively got worse and i held the pill. I kept waiting for that 'sign' that it was time to take it. I didn't want to take it and not really need it...it's $28!!!...so i cautiously waited and held it and stared at it. (can u picture the stare down??) tongue   When i finally did take it i then got to thinking 'what if i need two??' GEEZ...what a time to wonder that!! Anyway, to make a short story long...it worked in about an hour and it was SOOOO GOOD to get up this morn and NOT HURT!!! It is an absolute miracle drug!!! I got three more today...one in case i have pain again..and one more to back it up if i need two..and one more in case ...just in case. ;)

What a relief for you Rhonda!  I'm glad something is helping.  Be sure to call and ask the docs about samples.  I hope you won't need them but I'm so glad you have them! :-)

VERY good point Motown John! I shall complain no more...til i have to buy again... ;)

On another note...i did go to one of those sites that Kimber gave me the link to and found that i could apply to the manufacturer and try to get a discount. Well in doing so, u must fill out a form and have u'r doc fill in the prescription part. When chatting with the nurse in my docs office i discovered that they have someone in their office who actually helps with things like that. She suggested i come talk to that woman and try to discount the other meds as well. At this point i'm most interested in getting a lower price on the Maxalt and don't really need to effect the price on the others. I wanted to bring this up tho, to those who may not have thought of that possibiltiy. U'r own docs office may also have someone who assists in things like this. If u'r meds are or become too expensive to realistically buy, then this is a great service u should try to take advantage of. Just FYI.

Rhondab, Glad you found relief.  My sister-in-law takes Maxalt, she loves it also.  She is only allowed to have a few a month, because they are very addicting.  I had a headache for 3 months, until Monday, when I had the trigger point injections done again, praise the lord, it stopped. I have been having hot spots/cold spots again, but for some reason I think this has to do with hormnones.  Its getting time for sister flo to visit.  LOL.  I went to the GYN/OB on Tuesday.  He wants me to have my hormone level checked on the third day of my cycle to see if anything shows up.  I told him how awful I feel all the time, and the concerns that I had about my maternal gram going through menopause at 39, naturally.  He said that even my mom was younger than usual, she was 50.  So, we'll see.  I do have some typical symptoms of peri-meno.  Glad your feeling better.  Good for you!!!

Hey Jenny!!

Glad to hear u'r headache went away!! I can't take pain like that...too much of a wimp. Headaches and stomach aches...those are my killers, but otherwise i'm able to stand it. Don't know how u took it for 3 months!! Thanks for the info on Maxalt being addictive...i didn't know that and, of course, my doc didn't mention that at all. Maybe that's why he only gave me 9!! How do u mean hot spots/cold spots? Before my symptoms started with all this mess, i was having prob along the lines u'r speaking of. I had to have a hysterectomy to resolve those issues. I never felt good...different than the fatigue i started to feel after the surg...and was soooo sick each month. My not so friendly visitor, flo, never really stopped visiting. I'd spend days in bed each month and miss work at least twice a month just for that. I'm not sure if any of this would/could apply to u, but maybe just the knowledge can give u some insight to u'r own circumstances. Of course with a hysterectomy u can go thru menopause early and my doc feels i've started that. I'm only 38 (yes, i said ONLY...with due charm! ;) ), but again i had a hysterectomy. I'm not sure of u'r age or if u'r having any of the same kinds of probs i was having. Either way, u'r on the right track. I'm so glad u'r doc is moving on this and u'r being so proactive. Taking care of u'rself is the kindest thing u can do for u'r family. Please let us know what the doc says and how this all goes for u.

Hey Rhonda -

If your doc didn't tell you how addictive the Maxalt's can be, I doubt if he/she warned you about the possible heart issues. If you have any heart issues at all, ANYTHING, DO NOT TAKE Maxalt, unless your Dr says it's OK! It has something to do with what type of drug it is. It will cause more heart issues. I'm sorry I can't be more specific. I really need to start taking a tape recorder into the Dr's office with me when I go now. I get so much information, but it's in one ear, then out the other! Ugh!

The reason I know this is because I was experiencing chest tightness (started about 9 mos ago) which my primary Dr had me do all the routine things like ekg, stress test, chest xray to make sure there was nothing wrong with the ticker and lungs. (Which now seems that it may be the infamous 'MSHug') My neuro wanted to see those 'clear' reports before scribing Maxalt to me because of the potential issues.

Please read all you can on it. I love the stuff, but I would hate to see it hurt you more than help you. Good Luck!

Thanks for this info! No, he didn't tell me about the heart probs either, but im guessing that may be because he knew i didn't have any heart probs. I'm wondering now, tho, why he didn't just go over it all anyway. Most docs would. I did do a little research on the med before taking it. (i have been known to research things just a little!) and found the heart issue warnings plastered over every page i pulled up. Still tho, nothing about it being addictive at all. This has promptd me to review some more and see what else i may have missed. Thanks for bringing this up to me! What would i do without u guys? ;)

Rhondab, The cold spots feel like really cold water on my skin, it moves around.  Then sometimes it feels hot, kinda a burning, prickling feeling.  These can happen anywhere, but are very bad before the sister visits.  LOL. I asked about perimenopause because I have some other issues also. Very light periods, can start anywhere between 23 to 31 days apart, hair loss, insomnia, migraines (which just started before all the other weird feelings), dryness, weight gain, heart palpitations, and the weird bug crawling sensations.  All, almost forgot, when I do finally get to sleep, its usually about 5 a.m., then all I want to do is sleep all day.  But I think the worse is the "head chills".  It feels like my scalp muscles are tightening and bugs are crawling through my hair.  My periods have been really weird the last 3 years.  And sex drive, forget that, whats SEX anyway.  I'm going to be 36 in May, and my body is different, thats for sure.  I had all the thyroid panels done also, they are normal.  Every blessed test is normal, but I sure don't feel normal at all.  Glad the Maxalt is helping you.  Take care!!!

Wow....u weren't kidding!! Funky stuff going on and it would seem to point to menopause, tho u are very young. Since there's a history of it coming on in u'r family at young ages, tho, it's well worth taking a very good look at. Will it be long before u'r going in for the hormone level check?? I hope that's revealing. I've had wet feelings before (since all this funky {possible} ms stuff came up) but it was only in my hands and feet. I can't imagine the head chills and other things. I"m so sorry. It must be so frustrating for u. I can tell u (tho u prob already know this from u'r family) that the majority of things u mention here are all part of menopause...including the sex drive and dryness. Believe it or not, my issues with all that started at about age 36 as well and, thru a combination of things including the final hysterectomy, have gotten much better. Of course there are therapies u can try and i'd much reccommend u do those things and NOT have a hysterectomy until/unless u must. There are issues to deal with after a hystertomy as well and they, too, can be so frustrating. I truely hope that's not ever put on the table for u. Now i'm rambling, so i'll just say the final. Please let us know how the next appt goes and whether it's helpful for u. Are u keeping a journal of all these things? Even tho they may not be/seem to be ms related, it's a great idea to have them recorded and know what's going on when/if u'r ever asked or need to know. Take care and feel free to email anytime should u want to discuss any of this more personally.

Rhondab, So, are you say that you think this could be hormonal?  Did you have these feelings before your hysterectomy?  I know that I am young, but who would ever think that someone would go through menopause when they were 39.  My mom told me that she was 7 months pregnant with my oldest brother, my gram didn't start her period one month, she freaked out, thinking oh no, I'm pregnant and my Linda is having a baby, that means I'm going to be a grandmother and mother.  She had a little spotting for a few hours, the following year, and that was it.  My gyn told me not to be upset if the bloodwork comes back saying that everything is normal.  He said women have complained before, saying that they swear they are going through meno, they do the bloodwork, its normal, and boom, within a few years, they are done.  So, I don't know, its a mystery.  What do you think?

I think u well may be going thru menopause. I had blood work to see if my hormone levels were off and all was normal. To begin with, I had lots of bad pain because my pelvic floor was dropped and my muscles had given due to child bearing, but once i had the surg all that mess was over. I had other issues to deal with after the surg, but the probs that caused my hysterectomy were gone. NOW...my menopause is believed to have been brought on early due to my hysterectomy, but i'm not sure i totally believe that's the only reason because my sis is only 41 and she swears she's going thru it now. As for the other things...hot/cold sensations, bug crawling feelings...those don't seem to be hormonal the way u describe them. I can't say they could be due to ms or any other neurological condition for sure, but they don't seem to be hormonal. I've definitely known of women who've been thru menopause as early as 39, but it is uncommon generally. Same as other female things beginning early...my mother started getting her visits at age 9. So u see, it's possible. Don't hang u'r hat on what i'm telling u here. Keep up the persuit of all things neurological and be sure of what's going on with u, but as for the early menopause, it's certainly possible and may be PART of what's going on with u. It wouldn't be unusual at all to find more than one thing going on, but not be able to clearly determine on u'r own what those things are due to the funkyness of some of the symptoms. I hope this helps. There is much i could tell u before (IF) u need to end up with a hysterectomy, but for now i hope this is helpful and insightful. I hope u begin to get some relief of the things that're going on. I know it can be sooo frustrating and leaving u wondering what to do next, but hang in there. It'll get better.

Rhondab, have you ever visited www.power-surge.com?  If not, check it out.  Look under the message boards, internal vibrations.  There is alot of info on there about these bug crawling sensations, etc...  I figured too, it could be a combo of hormones provoking anxiety, producing these symptoms, its sounds far fetched, but I know that when my mom started feeling these changes, she was about 35-36, she had all kinds of EMG/NCS, the electrode thingys on the scalp, and one time my dad took her to the ER because she had these weird feelings on her face, they told her it could be early Bells Palsy.  It never turned into that.  My mother also suffers from migraines llike me, and alot of these feelings are common with migraines.  Who knows.  I'm trying to hang in there.  I truely feel that if it turns out ot be MS, it must be pretty mild, because the feelings have never gotten worse, or no new symptoms emerged.  I really enjoy chatting with you.  I might have to try the Maxalt also.  Talk again soon!!!!

Thanks! I'm going to that site now! Are u saying u think vibrations could be part of menopause?? I do have places that vibrate and have noticed that my right arm and leg will tremble when i get pretty tired. Did u'r mom have either of these?? It'd be so odd to find these things could all be due to something so dosile seeming as menopause...but as u said, who knows! Same here too...i really enjoy chatting with u! We'll talk anytime u'd like. Maybe together we can figure this stuff out!

Rhondab, my mom still has these internal vibrations, and she has been through menopause now 10 years, she will ask me all the time, Jen, is it that time of the month for you, because we always was around the same time, I'll say yeah, then she'll say how horrible she feels, stomach cramping, pimples, and of course, she still has the migraines.  It's like she has all the symptoms, but no period.  My sister-in-law tells me all the time that it was easier for her to turn 40, than it was for her to turn 30.  She is now 47, and hasn't had nothing for 8 months.  Her periods have been really weird the last 4-5 years, she had one every month, just they were either shorter or longer, heavier or lighter.  She tells me that she thinks that all my problems are hormone related, being that I just started with the migraines 5 years ago, and never hardly had a headache before this time.  The only time I would get a headache was if I drank to many brews. LOL.  And that wasn't to often.  Hope you took a look at the power-surge site.  It seems that not to many docs mention that these feelings could be hormonal, but when you read there about all the different feelings that those woman have felt, it makes you wonder.  There are alot there that were tested for MS if you take the time and read through everything.  Hope this helps some!!!! :-)

WOW...yeah i'm reading some now! I had no idea the things/symptoms that could be attributed to menopause. I ALWAYS do some research on anything i'm told i do or may have...and did on menopause, but guess i only got the surface. As i said before, my levels were all normal, yet my doc believes..as do i..that i'm in early menopause. I don't still have any of the usual cramps or other monthly feelngs, but have some of the typical menopause type symptoms that u hear about all the time. I ALWAYS had a bad time each month, so this new 'me' is a noticeably different and more improved me. I'm going to keep reading along and see what else may be part of what i've been dealing with. It's very interesting. Thanks for sharing! I plan to bring this all up at my next neuro and ob-gyn appts.
