Cold sensitivity and MS

Does anyone have the symptom of shivering in an over the top way if it's a little chilly out.. I'm not even talking cold... Very weird.

I don't have probs with shivering other than the normal getting cold. I get cold easily generally and have always shivered a lot, but for me the cold is a bit different in relation to these funky symptoms. Seems for me after i'm inside and cooled off in the summer my symptoms kick in. That is, while i'm cooled off and more 'normal' temps i get the dizzies and have balance probs and such. Not always tho...such is the way with all my symptoms. They come and go at will...and not MY will! ;)

Hi eleanor,

 

    Some people with MS have problems with cold as well as heat.  I remember last fall we went to see a fireworks display and it was in the 70's when we got there, no problem!  When the temperature dropped into the low 60's my husband began to shiver really bad and the rest of us weren't that cold at all. Luckily we all brought our jackets and piled them on top of him!   Really cold weather seems to increase his spasticity and pain issues but mildly cold yes he does shiver a bit.

Hi Centralnjgal,

I'm not dx, but have many symptoms.
My thermostate seems to be completely buggered....I get cold when those around me aren't, and hot when it's cold etc......i definately do excessive shivering like you've mentioned too.

Not sure what it means?????

It definitely means SOMETHING because before I got sick with all these symptoms, this NEVER happened to me..
Very weird..

I can be in a warm room or under the covers at night and get cold shivers, almost tingles, down my arms and flanks.  Cold weather slows me down, making me sluggish and I fall more.  I was diagnosed in late 2009 but was told I have most likely had the disease for more than 20-25 years.  I have SPMS.

Hi there, my thermostat is all screwy as well.. I am affected by the heat, but I also get so so cold, it seems that  cannot regulate body temperature.  I am cold while others are absolutely fine, and there have been times that I get so cold and start to shiver that I have to climb into bed and get under lots of covers in order to get the shivering to stop....it does not happen all that often but when it does it is very wierd...
