Can MS cause a fever? I have had a low grade fever for over a month now. I have had many tests...actually going to have an U/S on my gall bladdar in about 2 minutes. I DID have a CT scan and there was free air outside my colon...had the scope yesterday and things look OK. So...maybe it's my gall bladdar...anyone know if THIS is common in MS? I just trying to understand...I am perplexed!

Well, I don't know that it's common, but I have a fever quite often.  It's usually low, but it sometimes goes up to 102 degrees for brief periods.  Advil seems to do the trick when it goes too high.  I am just used to it at thie point.  If anyone knows that it is something we should be concerned about I hope they post. tongue

Fevers are not a symptom of MS. They are a symptom of some infection somewhere in your body, a chronic infection. Which, by the way, if left untreated can cause all kinds of other problems. If you are sure you know what your normal temperature is (98.6 is an average temperature..yours might be normally a bit higher or lower), and are sure you are having a fever (and not just discovering that your normal temperature fluctuates during the day, being at it's lowest point in the morning and it's highest point in the late afternoon),

you should be telling your doctor about it. You could be harboring something like a kidney infection, or chronic UTI, for example.

I definitely told both my gp and my neuro.  Neither were concerned.  I think they blame the Avonex.

Yes, Avonex or any of the interferon drugs can cause you to have an elevated temperature. But generally it should subside within 24 hours of the injection.  If it continues, you really need to tell your doctor again.

I've been logging my temp and what I find is it goes up and down through out the day. Actually my highest temp is in the mid morning...then it evens out and then come evening it goes up again. This is not my norma temp...I generally stay at 98.6...sometimes lower.

It's not a UTI because I have been tested for that while in the ER and in the ICU...which is where I spent last week.

My goodness, last week in the hosp! I'm sorry! Sounds like u've been ill a while. The docs couldn't tell u anything? Like Uppity said, temp usually means infection somewhere in ur body. I'm not sure how official this is, but i've always noticed that if u have a fever it pretty much always seems to go up in the evening. What did the ultrasound reveal?? Did they give u an explanation for the free air outside u'r colon?? Seems much more is to be done here. Please let us know what u are and if the ultrasound was revealing. Take good care of u'rself!
