Hey Everyone

It just keeps getting wierder and wierder! I'm sitting here and all of a sudden things just went black for a second. Much like when the lights flicker..and that's what i thought happened at first...but it's not. It's like my light just went out and came back on. No, no one can make any comments about my lights! Anyone ever have anything this wierd happen?!?!

Yikes, Rhonda, that sounds pretty strange.  I have never had that happen.  Put it in you journal.  Any other symtpoms with it???  Maybe you ate too much Easter chocolate.

Hey Gretchen!

Hummm....good idea on the chocolate, but none whatsoever today. I had a good bit of dizziness today and was sorta off balance., but nothing else. Well i got worn out really fast and spent the afternoon in my chair, but nothing eles. This has never happened before. It's really strange! Noting it now! ;)

I was just kidding about the chocolate.  Is your balance and your dizzyness connected??  For me, they were for a long time but now they are separate.  I have constant vertigo (as you already know) but the balance is not too bad.  I could pass a field sobriety test presently.  It is almost like a perception thing.  It feels like I should have bad balance.  My vertigo really messes with my ability to adjust to outside stimulation.  Like walking in a crowd freaks me out.  Do you have that?  Did you feel movement or weakness?

I am sorry you had so many issues on this day.  It is just not fair.  You deserve better.

Easter Sunday

 

Dear Rhonda:

 

When I was first DX'ED 19 years ago, I reading many MS Society brocures as well as other publications.

 

And at some rare times, they said, some patients would lose their sight.

 

Ohhhh man, I thought, anything but sight problems, please. Put me in a wheelchair, but please let me keep my vision, I remember thinking.  So I can relate to ANY concerns about visual abnormalities.

 

By any chance did you have too much Easter chocolate while listening to The Greatful Dead and Jimi Hendrix?

HAHAHAHAAHA...nope, no choc with jimi and jerry! Boy tho, woulda been fun! Yep, probs with sight are scary. I don't want to lose my sight either..would much prefer the chair too.

Yes, oftentimes the balance and dizziness are connected. Not all the time, but most of the time. I think i understand u'r vertigo probs. I can get in a crowd and if people are moving around me it makes me dizzy. Gotta sit down or i'll get a bit nauseated. Same thing if sitting in traffic and the cars around me move even slightly. I have even noticed that if i look up at the stripes on my kitchen wall i'll get dizzy. Very odd! My weakness isn't related to any movement. It's just one min i'm fine and the next i'm just lost. Must stop and sit. The sitting helps a little bit, but after a short time even the sitting is tiring. That's the fatigue that hits then. Geesh...vicious cycle!

That must have been weird and scary Rhonda, I hope it doesn't happen again.  Could it be related to your migraines?

You should also be checked for a seizure disorder. Seizures can be very brief, sometimes almost unnoticed by the person they're happening to!, and some of your other symptoms -- major fatigue and dizziness are often after-effects of a seizure.

I was never a huge Dead Head, but there is a line near the end of the song, "Truckin'" which I think sums up this whole MS thing...

Rhonda, My mon has suffered with migraines all her life, and her father also, they have both lost their vision before.  My mom will loose it sometimes, and not ever get the migraine that usually follows.  My grandfather (maternal) has actually been taken to the hospital a few times before he was retired, from work, because he would loose his vision, and also his entire left side would go numb.  He told me that when he was little he would loose it sometimes for 30 minutes at a time, scary.  I think this is where I got my migraines from, luckly me, it sucks.  I have seen big black spots on everything, but it only lasted for a few minutes.  I do remember one time when I was around 14-15 years old, walking down the hallway, and all of a sudden everything was black, but my vision came back and fast as it left, its scary.  Neuro told me its considered a ocular migraine. Hope you feel better soon.  Jen

Hi Rhonda,

 

    Boy you sure have some odd stuff happen.  I don't know, I get migraines from time to time and always get vision loss with it, but I can still see light if that makes sense.  Total blackness though, how strange.  I hope it never happens again to you but please get it checked out.

very scary indeed! Like Kimber I get partial vision loss with migraines,,,,but not the whole deal!

Hello. I am new to the forum. I was diagnosed in 2002 with the wonderful friend of ours MS. I started out with the vision problems. But I have noticed that crowds and loud noises affect me. I get dizzy and nauseated. I even get frustrated as well.
Rhonda, when my problems started I would have to close my left eye and turn my head to be able to focus on anything on my left side. If I turned quick to the left I would get so dizzy that I could not hold food down. Vertigo test came back normal. My depth and perception was off that I was constantly pour acid and solvents on my hands when I was performing extractions and test. I remember one time I had to lay down that I actually felt like I was in a black and white tunnel spiraling downwards. Wierd feeling. And the lights went out only in my left eye. I do have friend that hers went out for a couple of days then she was able to fully recover her eyesight.

Welcome to the board. Wow, what a ride for u. I'm sorry u've been dx'd with MS, but very glad u've found this forum and hope u'll feel comfortable asking any questions or posting to any of the threads. Yes, i can relate to the crowds and loud noises. More and more that's worsened over time, but it did begin rather quickly once all this stuff started happening. I've noticed that nauseated feeling as well, tho it's not so much i can't take it. I sit when it happens as well and that seems to help get the balance of things back in order. Yes, turning my head too quickly is also a bit of a prob, tho i'm not sure i've noticed it more on one side than another. Wow! sounds like u have a bit of a dangerous job to be dealing with depth and perception probs! Be careful!! There are times at night...in the dark...when i lay down and it feels just like i'm falling...then that nausea comes on...but getting a light on helps tremdously!!! I don't usually do that in the daylight. Does light help u'r feeling when that happens? When u'r lights went out, how long did it last??? For me it was literally only a few seconds, but enuf that i noticed it and knew it was more than a blinking of my eye! Thanks for u'r input! I'm so glad u'r here and hope to hear more from u in time.
