Drop foot or foot drop...causes?

  Could anyone tell me if you could develop drop foot by being hit in the shin just below the knee which caused me to fall backwards and land on my bottom. Sort of like having someone pull the chair out from under you just as you are sitting down. The spot below the knee was very bruised and sore as was my tail bone and sacrum area. I know that drop foot is neurological but I don't know if this is my MS. I have slowly developed drop foot over the last four months and it doesn't seem to be resolving itself which is very much a worry as I have never had it happen before.

It seems that it could indeed have been caused by the injury you describe (there is a muscular cause of foot drop, as well as neurological). I hope this helps.

Thanks Uppitycats. I appreciate your imput. I go to a physiatrist in about 4 months, but that is a long ways off and this has really got me rattled. I knew someone on this site would come through. I am sure it will help because many of the sites I have already been on have not been very informative.

I had to move in February. And the new house has some steps. I was making multiple trips up and down putting away our things. I developed some sore muscles then a few weeks later my right foot was headed south.Turns out all the stair climbing had tightened my calf muscle and was creating a kind of tendonitis. It started in real bad right before my dr.s appt,and she was able to figure it out. But I had gone weeks thinking it was foot drop. Now, I just keep my calfs stretched out.

Dale in regards to drop foot I have that problem but it's just the ms rearing it's ugly head Check on the internet for a new product called Ness L300 its for MS patients Im going in tomorrow to find out all the facts I'm seeing a physical therapist who's going to set me up with it and let me try it look on the internet it's really fascinating and looks like it will be good for all of us with MS

I was wondering if it worked for you. I have dropfoot and I saw the Ness L300 also.
