Well, to start....
I've been having trouble urinating and emptying my bladder for the past couple years now. It's gotten to the point where I have to squat in my bathtub to go at all. Even then I can't get enough out.
I've noticed that while having a very solid bowel movement I can completely empty my bladder. This is the #1 way I can empty my bladder.
I can feel there is a spasm inside, that is worse at times than others. Most likely preventing me from urinating.
I have also found that coffee, certain hot teas, or a couple beers is the #2 way to get most of my bladder empty..... I can even sometimes stand and urinate after drinking these.... The spasm also goes away for a period of time after drinking these beverages, but of course returns eventually. Especially after a long slumber.
I have had apsolutely no help from two urologists I have gone to see.
I got the cystoscopy. I told the man from the start, it is extremely painful waste of time. No knowledge was gained from this. I knew/know for a fact that I can't urinate thanks to MS.
Then he decided to give me Uroxatrol, which is a pill used for prostate problems. I have nothing wrong with my prostate, and have been examined by a few different people, including my urologist.. **in fact, my first neurologist believed that was why I couldn't urinate.... a prostate problem?? AFTER diagnosing me with MS??** I am only 28 years old for that matter.
Anyway, the Uroxatrol proved fruitless and left me with some sort of mild priapism. That has finally subsided, thank God
This urologist seemed pretty sure of himself about everything. He said that drinking coffee would make my problem worse...... Now how could that be, if coffee is one of the only things that will help me empty urine that has been sitting in my bladder for over a day???
So, I go to a new urologist who is just as clueless as the last. No answers.
I do, however, have the option to self catherize...... Unfortunately after the pain I felt from my last cathaterization, I'm very hesitant....
Not to mention, I know how to empty my bladder at least 3 times a day (read up). I also drink loads of cranberry juice and parsley tea (I drink at least 2 gallons a week). I have never had a bladder infection before and I can prevent it myself without catheterization. And yes, to answer your question, I get my kindeys and urine checked every 2 months.
I am not ignorant, however. If this becomes bad enough that coffee and a good dump won't squeeze a sicnificant amount of urine from my bladder, I'm gonna take the painful route of the pee tube. It does hurt me, I know that from experience.
Anyway, I don't really know what the point of all this was... I guess I'm just venting after my fruitless ventures to the urologist.
I can't believe there is no medicine out there that can help this.
I literally would love to have the opposite problem. I would trade urinary hesitation for incontinence, any day!! I'd love to pee pants at this point.
Anyway, for those with the same problem, I feel your agony.
