Wow, My Last Doctor's Appt.

I had my TC surgery Oct 07. Had my first post op doctor's appt. the beginning of December. Was in a lot of pain still so my surgeon gave me a perscription for Symax and scheduled me to come back Jan 16th.

So I'm doing much better with the pain since taking Xanax when I eat. But I go in this morning and see the surgeon and he can tell I'm feeling and doing much better. He goes over somethings with me. I ask him about following up with him or my GI doctor and he says only a small percentage of ppl have to come back to see him and even then he says he sees them every couple years.

And since I don't have a colon I would only need my sigmoid examined when I'm 50 since I have no history of colon cancer.

I left his office and thought, "Wow, this was my last doctor's appt." It kinda didn't seem real. I guess because I've been going to see doctors so much over the last couple years. I'm afraid I'm going to have withdrawals! LOL!


On a side note: the surgeon said my GI doctor had asked how I was doing. I thought that was so nice. I really love the team of doctors I have. My surgeon, GI doctor and MS specialist are fantastic.

I had colonic inertia.

Well it was great seeing him for my post op visits b/c I didn't have a co-pay :)

His office is in the same complex as the hospital so I stopped in and saw some of the nurses who took care of me. They all commented on how great I looked. It was nice letting them see me without a hospital gown on and with some make-up on :) I'm sure they're use to seeing ppl at their worst, so it was probably a nice change to see someone at their best.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery praying4healing. As far as this dx'd goes, it looks like I've gotten my healing :) Praying for the same for you.

My DH bought us a bowflex last May for our wedding anniversary (he gave me a choice Tiffany's or Bowflex!) Because of the MS it's safer for me to use the bowflex instead of free weights. So I focused on building muscle before the surgery. The month before the surgery I got too weak to workout or even leave the house. I was in such pain and was just eating a liquid diet.

I am 5'6" and weighted around 120 lbs.

I had heard that ppl lose around 10 lbs after the surgery, but I was very fortunate and only got down to 115 lbs.

I'm back up to 120 lbs now. I have very little fat. I'm sure my BMI is probably on the very low end.

But my friend who had surgery the month before me is 5'7" and she got down to 103 lbs. The surgeon put her on a TPN after the surgery and even once she got home. She had to hook up to it for like 8 hours everyday.

Don't be surprised on how weak and fatigued you are once you start back exercising. Walking would probably be the best thing to do starting off.

I was running 2 miles in around 25 minutes before the surgery. Now I can only run 1 mile in 18 minutes.

but they say it really takes your body a full year to recover from such major surgery, so I guess I'm doing pretty good considering.

Actually eating is my problem. I associate food with pain and so getting over that psychology that has been established in my mind now is something I work on. But as long as I'm not in pain after I eat I don't think about it, but if I have a bad day or eat something that my system doesn't do well with then I "relapse" in my mind and don't want to eat.

I enjoy working out so I force myself to eat so I have the energy for that, but if I've had some hard days then I'll go back to a liquid diet just to give my digestive tract a rest.
