I had my sitz marker test today and new updates

Hi All,

I thought I'd give you a follow up.  I posted a while back about all this mess I'm going thru.  My new gI doc ordered the sitz test (he hasn't seen me yet, he wants all the tests done first).  The way he administers it is that I took one capsule Fri., Sat. and Sun. mornings and then I had the xray this morning.  I asked for a copy of the xray and I came home and counted all the markers.  They are all still there.  They start right around my stomach and then clump along the left side and then a few on the right and then 20 or so in the lower pelvis.  Do you have any idea if this is normal?

P.S. I spoke with gogently today and she is doing really well.  She is 2 weeks post-op and says she can tell a difference.  Keep her in your prayers as she contineues to recover.

Hi

A Sitz marker test is where you swallow a capsule that has 24 radio opaque rings (can be seen on x-ray), then usually x-rays are taken on days 1, 3 and 5.  If 20% or more of the rings remain at day 5 , it is abnormal.  You must NOT take any laxatives or enemas during the test.

I had this test done preoperatively and all 24 rings remained at day 5.

I guess the radiologists really don't know what to report other than how many rings are left in.....I have the xrays and ALL the rings are there (72) (I counted them repeatedly), the radiologist reports 64.  Maybe they were in a hurry!  That is all it states other than no dialated loops present.

 

On wed. I have the anal emg/manometry.  I am really anxious about all this.  I'll let you all know how everything goes.  I'm supposed to have a defagram at some point....is it really neccessary????

De***ram is important because they have to make sure that there is no pelvic floor disfunction.  Wouldn't it be terrible to go through the surgery and have a pelvic floor dysfunction and still not be able to go.  Good luck

An update....I had my anal/rectal manometry, it was'nt painful just humiliating.  The tech's were women and very professional and curtious.  There was a rep of some sort who educates them on the machines etc...so he was in there but it was fine.  I met my new gi doc and he said he will probably see me next wed. to go over everything.  I think the test today was normal though.  No mention of the defagram.  The tech's were familiar with my case and also that my all the rings were left in my sitz xray.

 

I'll let you nkow what I find out next week.

 

I spoke w/ Gogently yest. and she was doing pretty well.  She goes to her surgeon tomorrow.  Her wound was still open but doing good.  No infection.  She says she eats pretty much anything except mexican.  She is a very nice lady.

I took my Sitz pill Sunday the Dr. said to wait until Tuesday for the X-ray then go every day until Friday. All of the rings are still there half are in my small intestine the rest have pooled in my bowel but have not moved since Wednesday.. Does anyone know what that means? Do you think I need surgery. My follow up is not for 4 weeks... (stupid) Please help with your experiance Thanks J

If sitz remains after 5 days it's a good news.

I had those same tests. 23 out of the 24 markers were left in my system. I had a TC Oct 07. My pelvic floor function was normal so the surgeon reattached my intestine to my rectum. I don't wear a bag. Sounds like that's probably what your surgeon will suggest.
