hi everyone, haven't wrote in a couple of days so thought to say hi.

i'm having my surgery in two days and i thought i was ready but again i'm feeling abit scared thinking if i'm better off the way i am?

please can you write to me before i go in.

hopefully i will keep u updated on my surgery, and if i'm not i'll tell my sister Elishasummers to write in.

i wanted to know that for the first few days when i have all the drips and stuff what will my movement be like ? will i have to lay flat on my back?

Also if DW38 i think i pressed the button by accident where i've stopped ypur post coming through, i feel really bad, could you write back and see if you can write to me. tanx

another silly question, i was thinking as tha bag will hang down will it be swaying every time i move about (LOL)

As for laying flat on your back - don't bet on it! They'll have you up and walking the next day (if not the same day). You won't want to, but the nurses will make you and it's all for the best. The more you walk, the quicker your gut will wake up and the quicker you'll be able to go home so try not to protest too much :)

As for the bag swinging, I tuck it in my undies so it can't. Some people prefer to just let it all hang out over their undies though - it's all personal preference. You can decide which you feel more comfortable with.

There are no real rights and wrong regarding ostomies - it's what suits you best that is right :)

Good luck with your surgery. I second what Shaz says about activity right after surgery. After my last surgery They were kind of slow to get me up and moving and I think it might have delayed my recovery. I look forward to your post op posts!

Hi Samie,

I love your user name LIPGLOSS! lol.
I just want to wish you luck with your operation. When i got mine 2 yrs ago they had me up and in the shower first the next morning, they say it's better to be up and about quickly as this helps everything start moving again.
I tucked my bag in my underwear too, but i also had a catheter which was more troublesome for me, as you can imagine trying to walk or hobble as i was with 2 bags coming out different ends! lol.

I also come from the UK, up in Scotland, are we near one another? I'm about 10 miles outside Glasgow.
I noticed in one of your earlier posts that you have 3 children, i have 2, 2 boys aged 5 & 3, so it can be hard going when you come out of hospital, you will need alot of help, so if there are offers of help take them up on it!

Hey sammie!

I'll be praying for u as well. Ironically enough I'm just on my way home from 5 hours at the hospital for pre admitting testing and meeting with the ostomy nurse. I now have a beautiful mural on my belly marked from a sharpie :o/.
That made it all too real for me as my surgery is next tuesday. I started to cry in front ofthe ostomy nurse, I was so embarrassed. Then I found out that I'll probably need a blood transfusion (I'll b praying against that tho). So I completely understand ur doubt as I'm feeling the exact same way.
I'll be looking for u to see how things went. I'm sure theyl go just fine. Remember our "quality of life will b so much better." Am I the only 1 that gets tired of hearing that? Lol

I too am a "tucker"!! It is more comfy for me to fold the end of the bag up and tuck it in.

tanx everyone, it's 7;15 am and i'm getting ready to go to hospital.

praying4healing- its ok her opp went well, she is coping well she oppted for morphine feeling drowsy helps her to sleep, but she keeps getting up with pain so she presses the morphine button, will keep u updated , good luck with urs
