my surgery is over

I had surgery yesterday.  All is good so far.  I walked twice yesterday.  Outisde of pressure above my belly button, I feel pretty good.  I am glad I did the surgery.  I thought about walking out yesterday becuase I was so nervous.  The pre-op nurse told me that I could change my mind all the way up to being on the operating table....before they start, of course.  But, I  braved it out and now I am recovering.  They did it laproscopic which I think is good.  They gave me cipro and flagyl during surgery and have given me a couple of antibiotics after surgery............is that normal?  I have a slight fever.........like 99.  Is that normal, though, with all these antiobitcs?  I really do not want an infection.......of course noone does but I am hoping that I can get through this with no complications..........as everyone wishes.

chili's right, the walking is imperative, not only will it help u release gas u might have, but it will also get ur stoma to working quicker. The quicker it works (without complications of course) the quicker you get out of there. I think the walking is what got me out so soon after surgery, I was determined to get out of there, i knew id adjust better at home. I too had my surgery laproscopically. I'm glad ur feeling ok. I hope u continue to mend healthily and happily.

Today is much better than yesterday. I could have gone home tonight but I choose tomorrow morning. My stoma started really working this morning and they have had to change the bag twice so that is good. I still have a low grade fever that they think is due to lungs so the asst doctor has asked me to walk more and breathe through that thing more. I still cannot stand up straight but they put me on pain pills and took me off the pump. Only thing I have to take out is the drain tube out of my butthole and then I will be all set.

I followed your posts while you were in the hospital......it kinda scared me because my surgery was right around the corner. I am glad to hear that you are home and I am assuming you are feeling much better. Infections sound like no fun. I think that this whole thing went pretty good and it is still no fun..........I mean it has been really alot harder than I even expected. I do not know so much if we can really "prepare" for surgery. It is so draining and then if you go into it being sick then I think it would just kick your butt.

Anyway, I have a temp ileostomy. They did it laproscopic but the doctor did say that my colon was very fragile so I am guessing that there are some doctors that would not have done it laproscopic. But that is about it. It was 4 1/2 hrs long and I did it at cleveland clinic. He is suppose to do the pouch making in 6 mths and then 3 mths following he is suppose to close up the stoma to use the pouch. So, I will be stuck with this stoma for 9 mths. How are you doing, Lipgloss? Are you tons better since being home? Any regrets? I don't think I have any regrets after hearing the condition of my colon. The doctor said that he has a picture of it while it was still in my stomach that he is going to give me......I asked if he had one. I would like to see what has caused me so much grief for the past year and half.

All the tubes are out and they now have me on pain pills opposed to the pump. I am going home in the morning and could have gone home tonight but I had to arrange for a ride bc I live 3 hours away. I still cannot stand up straight......not even close but I am guessing that is normal with all the crap they did to my tummy.

Again, I am glad you are home and better. I bet it was scary.
