Hello to everybody - this board has been popping for the past few days - which is good!!
KIMBERLY - How long has this been going on with you or is it sudden?
IRISH - Is it too personal to ask what kind of new issues you're having? Whatever the issues at least you're getting answers - that's a blessing!!!
LIZZIE - Sorry to hear you've had a bad few days. This has happened to me on several occasions and I know the pain and discomfort you're feeling. I went back to the surgeon three or four times because of this, had hosts of tests done, all came out fine, and was told that I more than likely have IBS and the spasms that go along with it (my thought was IBS - how is that possible) and was prescribed MiraLAX to be taken daily, sometimes twice a day and Bentyl for the spasms (also stool softeners if I feel the need).
MOM - For me personally, I don't feel that the MiraLAX causes more gas for me personally, but we are all different.
about the consistency of bm's - some days they're slightly formed, others they're hard, others "muddy", and some they're watery. I really never know what to expect.
STORMY - Hi and WELCOME!!! This is a wonderful site and I too am thankful for each and everyone here. This thread has been a God send to say the least!! Has a surgery date been scheduled for you?
The best gift you can give yourself is to go back to as many posts as possible. It is an educating experience and there's so much you can learn. Educating yourself is so important. I personally spend days upon days and hours upon hours researching.
Please feel free to come as often and ask as many questions as you feel the need.
THINGS I DEAL WITH - I am nearly one and a half years post-op and as stated above and in many posts I still have challenges. I'm far from being "free" of problems. It seems that every few months I deal with extreme pain and discomfort. The pain is from my rib cage all the way to the pubic area. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do that helps, I just wade it out. The Bentyl prescribed for spasms doesn't even help. It hurts to move, to sit, to stand, and even lay down. I'm so tender to the touch. I also feel very "swolen".
My surgeon is aware of this and says if worse comes to worse the very little colon he left in (to keep things from running straight thru) he will remove. Even though he left a very small amout of colon he still considers my surgery as a TC.
So basically it's up to me if/when I want to start the process. At this point I'm dealing with it. Life is better for me prior to surgery because I had NO life prior to the surgery. My ENTIRE life, from a toddler on, was miserable. I am a success story and so thankful for my TC. There really isn't any promise that we will never have problems - that's life in general.
Well, I hope this helps someone and wish everyone the best in their healing process and beyond.
