HI, I don't want to avoid your last question but I do not have a bag and cannot reply to it. I have been a member since last Nov. when I had a total colectomy. I now have had 3 hernias repaired and had to have a small bowel surgery due to the bowel going through the hernia repair mesh and also having my intestines kinked up. I am having a slower recovery than last years surgery with more exhaustion and weakness. Can anyone comment? Resa, I wrote to you the other day and cannot find my comment or yours and may have written it on a different thread if that is possible. Well, I am glad to be a part of this recovery again and look forward to getting to know all of you. Thanks, enpointe(as in ballet).

Could you tell me what the hernias felt like? How you (or the doctor) knew you had one?  Did you do anything on your part to develop these hernias?

Hi Mom2Sophia, I found out about the hernia by going to my gyn ! . She was feeling my stomach area. I did not have any pain but felt that I was bloated out so much and it looked like I was pregnant at times. I was told to see my surgeon and ended up having 3 hernias. Sorry that doesn't help much. Hi this is enpointe again, I am having a tough night emotionally and am very afraid of having another bout of small intestine obstruction since having two. I am not sure what I should really be eating even though my doctor says normal diet. I am having pain tonight and finished my pain meds. (on second week of recovery) and the aleve isnt cutting it too well. I know it is late and pain is always worse in the pm. Anyone out there that I can talk to? Thanks enpointe

I know I am a little late with a response, but emotionally I can relate.  As far as diet, stick to a low residue/low fiber diet.  DON'T eat a normal diet...at least, that is what my dietician and surgeon told me.  Stay away from veggies/fruits, whole grains, nuts, etc.  HTH

Hi Mom2sophia, I really appreciate your help. I had eggplant parmesan last night and felt bad all night. That is just crazy I guess. I am going to do the bland thing and hope it helps. Did you have a colectomy or small bowel obstruction? I haven't gone on the other comments today and forgot what I read yesterday, oh well ! It was really nice of you to write me back. Enpointe

Hi Enpointe, How are you feeling? I hope better.. I had terrible pain on Mon nite and went to the ER. I had sharp, stabbing pain and couldnt even talk at times. The strange thing was that it would come and go in waves. I had a CT scan done and there was no blockage, thank God..but they said it might have been gas! I had no idea that gas could cause that much pain... others on this forum said that they thought it could be gas too. By the way..I had a subtotal collectomy, illeostomy on April 3. I hope you are doing much better. I am trying to stick to a bland diet too..which wasnt too hard the first two weeks post surgery. But now..I am getting my appetite back and I want some of my homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs!! LOL..but i dont dare!! Take care! Marie

His Will, I love the name of your password. Gas pains can be really bad. I'm glad you went and had it checked out. I had so much gas pain two days ago I couldn't believe it. I walked almost 2 hours that day intermittently and it resolved slowly. What caused you to have to get an ileostomy and how is that going. I cannot believe I don't have one, it is a miracle. I know they can be reversed right? I hope your day goes better. I had alot of pain last night and this morning. I will have a good day though. Thanks alot, enpointe, Denise
