Hi Richard - I've been thinking about you and looking for your post. Congratulations on making it through another surgery! As awful as the recovery is, at least you are home and the key word here is "recovery." My takedown was May 9th. I came home on the 14th and had TERRIBLE diarrhea (ouch!). I knew it was normal so I held out until my followup appt. and then it turned out that I had a stricture so I had to have it dialated on the 22nd thru an outpatient procedure. After that it was about 5 more days and things started to improve some however the D was still hanging around fiercely and I'm having a problem with continence about 1/3 of the time - usually late afternoon and evening - still nothing like with the UC tho. Then I started eating Metamucil Wafers and things started thickening up right away. I eat 2 wafers in the morning with some water and take 2 immodium. It's not perfect, but it's really helped a lot. I recently started eating 1 or 2 more in the afternoon to keep up the momentum. I also started out with a low residue diet and am trying to introduce new foods in s-l-o-w-l-y. I've decided that sugar = bad which is a real bummer for me because as my name indicates, I am a candy addict. I started working from home last week and was supposed to go back to the office this week, but because of the incontinence I'm going to spend one more week at home trying to get this under control. It is truly 2 steps forward and 1 step back and patience is key. The D is awful on the bottom - especially after not using that area for so long. Some very helpful tools are A&D Ointment, A&D Zinc Cream, Calmoseptine, a squirt water bottle for cleansing, lots and lots of Charmin Blue, and a clear path to the bathroom! Good luck and please keep us posted. It's been tough, but it really is getting better. -Laura
