I have had an ileostomy since last summer and I have survived the drill so far. This question probably doesn't have a strict answer, but I'll ask anyway. How much daily output into the bag is considered too much? I've been fretting about this all day, thinking I should find out. With just "normal" eating and drinking when should I be concerned?

well i think that depends on the person. Somedays i have to change my bag more often than others. Today i thing i have empited it three times so far. And it's 7pm here. But the other day it seemed like all i did was empty it, lol. Seems to depend more on what i eat, and when i eat it, rather than how much i eat.

I read somewhere that if you have a qt. of output in a day, you need to be concerned and seek help. I started measuring (gross) today and just couldn't keep it up. If I try to skip eating a meal, the stoma( Jillie) makes a lot of noise and I feel sooo hungry.

how would you measure? what did you do put it in a container?

No question is depends on the person.  I think i empty it all day long.  I'd say today it was around 5 or 6 times so far.  But then again i don't liike to let much get in there.  But i'm the same way, if i try not to eat my stoma is very loud.  So i try and eat little things here and there.

I don't think I would be so worried about too much output.  Your body can only evacuate as much as you put in and nothing more.  Since you no longer have a colon to hold the waste it comes out as soon as it makes it to the end of the line.  The only concern I really have is not enough waste or real watery waste.

I also think it depends on how long you've had your ostomy. It takes a while for you small intestine to take over the responsibilities of the large intestine. I had a lot more output in the first 4 or 5 years than I do now.
