See through scanners at airports

Yikes, what a huge violation of privacy. Even if the faces are blurred, I can't believe they're actually implementing something like that.

Has anyone here had problems at airports with your ostomy? I mean, has anyone ever made you lift up your shirt to show them (and subsequently everyone around you) what you're 'hiding'? There's no metal in the appliance to cause a detector to go off, right?

i got really worried when i had to go into the courthouse for jury duty, cause they go through your purse and all when you go in there, and you have to go through a metal detector

i also heard that the airlines are thinking of charging people extra if they weigh over a certain amount. people will actually have to get on a scale before they get on the plane.

That is terrible and degrading.
I actually had an experience similar to this once... My dad is a bigger guy and we went on a family trip to New York one summer, I think it was on Southwest Airlines. Anyway, we got on the plane and my dad quietly requested one of those seatbelt extension things because the normal ones don't extend quite far enough to fit. Anyway, the stewardess came over when everyone had boarded the plane and loudly told him that if he couldn't put both armrests down that he would be charged for a second seat. Him and my mom were both mortified as everyone on the plane was looking at him at this point, and he put both armrests down and she just walked away, no apology or anything. My dad just brushed it off (he's used to people being rude, I'm sure), but my mom was LIVID. When we got off the plane she went straight to the manager and raised hell, and we ended up getting free plane tickets. I just couldn't believe that women's complete lack of tact and respect. And even though my dad acted like he didn't care, I know it really embarrassed him and hurt his feelings.

wow that is horrible, but honestly, it might not be such a horrible idea. I mean, i look at someone like my MIL, who honestly wieghs at least 400lbs, and she has flat out told her dr she has no interest in changing her diet or losing weight, even though, at the age of 50 she has had to have both knees replaced because of the weight. She quit flying because she did have to buy two seats, and in order for her to go see a backyardigans play with DS and DH, she has to call and see if they have double seats.
I worry because she will probably die a very very early deat, and i know that would upset my family.
I went to some clubs last night and had one pat down and one of those wand things waved over me, and noone said anything.
What worries me more, is when the look through my purse, that they will want to look in my little black thing of supplies!

I've flown extensively to the USA, UK, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and various parts of Australia (I'm an Aussie) and have never been asked to show my bag. They did do a routine luggage check as I was leaving the USA but didn't bat an eyelid at my ostomy supplies - they've seen it all before and as long as you don't have anything illegal, they're not worried :)
