I need to vent...

As you may have read in some of my other posts I was told by my doctor and surgeon that my intestines have healed and I am ready to have my ileostomy reversed  (initial surgery was Feb 07).

  Because the health care system in Canada - especially Calgary is so over burdened I was told the wait list would be a couple of months.

 No biggie...

I just found out that I will not be reconnected until sometime next year!! 

   The surgeon is available, but there are not enough hospitals or operating rooms. 

  In the last 10 yrs they have torn down 2 of the hospitals leaving only 3 to serve the 1 million+ people who live here.

Can you believe it!!

  I will have the ostomy unnecessarily for over a year because of the health care system in Canada.

 

Its insane!

I know I will manage the wait, and that it could be so much worse, and I am lucky that I have the option to have it reversed... but for a few minutes I am going to let myself be angry...

well at least you don't have to pay for it, that's lucky, lol.
I don't blame you for being angry though, it would make me mad too, to have to wait like that.

Health care Canada it's not really bad. Though it is.. in some ways especially waiting time in emergency room and medicenter clinics. I think what they do is case to case basis. If there's someone out there that needs immediate care rather than you, he or she would be in priority. Think of it on the other way around, you are the one who most need it first and the doctor prioritize your case who can still wait. What would you feel ? Don't blame much on our health care system, we are far more better than other countries. At least we are not going to pay for it. Only the room ....which we pay if we prefer private or semi private (but we can charge this our insurance at work ) but there's also a free room anyways.

I know its depressing because of the wait, but just think positively .

Sorry to hear about your wait. I know how long is feels. Cannot believe that you have to wait a year. I think the health care system here can be good or bad depending where you are. Calgary is booming and that is probably not helping your situation. I have been very pleased with the swiftness with which I was treated, and have not had to wait for anything as of yet. I am thankful to have had so much treatment (CAT scans, MRI,Upper GI, tons of chemo, radiation, numerous hospital stays, etc) and never have a bill to pay. You can't beat that! I have a friend in Indiana who lost her job after her husband quit his. Imagine what would have happened to them if they were in my situation. No health care, and just try getting anything covered when you start a new health coverage when and if you get a new job. The only thing you can be grateful for is that you are not getting sicker waiting for treatment...hear about that often enough.
