:-)  Hi everyone,

I had my procotocolectomy on the 19th sep and i just thought i would post a thread to say how brilliant i am feeling since having my op.

I have went from living on strained soup and mashed potatotes for the last two years to eating three meals a day and stuff in between that aswell.

The only real pain i have is from my wound area but docs say thats just everything healing back together and its quite sore when i pee.

Stoma nurses at the hospital are delighted at how im doing regarding empty and changing the bag.

Just a question to anyone regarding the peeing thing did any of you have problems peeing after your op and if so how long before things were back to normal?

your pain from peeing may be from the catheter you should have them check to make sure you don't have an UTI, it's common to get those after having a catheter.
I had no problem peeing but i do pee more often now, i guess because of drinking more and absorbing less, lol.
I am so glad to hear that you are happy and healthy, it's AWESOME isn't it?

Allan, I'm so happy for you!! yeah Life without Crohn's and fistulas is brilliant, isn't it? And to be able to eat real food again is such a wonderful gift to all of this.

I think Summer has a good point about the urinary tract infection (UTI). You might want to tell your doc about the pain you're experiencing, because that can be cleared up quickly with antibiotics.

YEAH!!! life without fistulas....there is nothing better:) Definately let your doc know, if it is a UTI it is better to catch it early before it has a chance to move up the chain of organs...Not to be a "fun sucker", as my daughter calls it, but remember that your Crohn's isn't removed with surgery. You possibly could have a recurrence, so if you experience any problems, call your GI. I know that MANY of us live life symptom free after our proctocolectomies...wishing you the same success:)

I had a UTI after surgery from the catheter. A few antibiotics cleared it right up.

Allan,

I had my surgery in June and was catheterized for almost 2 1/2 wks. As a side result of the surgery I had lots of testicular swelling and was not able to urinate. Prior to surgery I had absolute no problems.

According to the Urologist who examined me and the ultrasound exam, it was not a major problem and would go away with time. He said that it was quite common; the removal of the colon along with normal surgical bruising puts pressure on the bladder and can bruise that area. I was put on Flomax and the catheter was remover 5 days later.

I am now 3 1/2 months post op, no swelling and progressively getting back to pre-surgery urination. I would still say that I am only back to 85% of normal but it is not a big deal. BTW, I found that I had some unusual pain during intercourse. My penis literally hurt. Good news-it went away.

So, even if you do not have a UTI, time will get you back to normal
