weird medical history

So i had to go to the girlie dr today, and i had to fill out a new medical history.  well, there were lots of questions, but this was the strangest thing i have ever seen.

The paper started out like this

Are you:

Adopted- yes/no

Accident-yes/no

That thing actually was asking if i was an accident, instead of planned!  For oen, why does that matter, and who actually knows that about themselves anyway???

I can see why being adopted would be relevant, but I don't see the importance of being planned or not. Maybe because if the pregnancy wasn't planned there's a higher chance that the mother was drinking/smoking/doing drugs in that critical first month before she figured out she was preggers. Or maybe she was on the pill and missed a day or two and got preggers but didn't know so she kept taking the pill (not sure what that would do, but you're not supposed to be on the pill if you're pregnant). I can't really think of any other reason that that would affect your medical history.

Yeah i totally understood the adopted part. I just can't figure out why the fact that the patient was an "accident" would have any bearing on anything.

What an insult!! I think I would have a few things to say to that medical group, starting with I don't have to put up with this and the accident is written on this form-- Goodby!!

I cant beleave thay ask people that.I think I would ask them why thay ask this question or I might ask them the same about there self.Besides I have a son that thay would call a accident we call him a suprize and he turned out to be a wonderful suprize.He is 22 this year and he is one of the best gifts that god has given me and my husband.

my son is technically an accident, we were gonna start trying in Januray and I got pregnant the september before, while i was on the pill!

I got my 22 year old because it took 2 years of fertilaty drugs to get my 23 year old son we thought we were safe Ha Ha Ha. The rest of my kids are 3 1/2 to 4 years apart.

I am adopted and realize the importance of drs knowing if you are adopted or not for family history, etc. Just don't get the question: Accident? What is that all about? Am I just being blonde or is there no relevance? Don't get it.... someone explain that one!!!

There is no relevance as far as i can see. It was a really weird questionare anyway, it also asked if you were finacially secure and sexually satisfied

My parents always told me I was a celebration! yeah   They finally moved to a new apartment with 2 bedrooms. One for my sister and brother to share, one for them (so they didn't have to sleep on the pull-out sofa anymore). They weren't planning on anymore kids (my sister is almost 9 years older than me, my brother is 6 years older). Nine months later, I came along and my parents were back on the pull-out sofa. That lasted another 5 years until they bought our house and everyone got their own room.

i think that a lot of kids come along as suprises, but i just cannot imagine telling your child that they were an accident! I mean i have no intention of ever telling michael that.

What a crazy question to ask! Could you imagine calling your Mom on your cell while filling out the paperwork and asking her, "Hey Mom, was I an accident? My doctor wants to know!" confused

Sounds to me that thay wanted to do a survay but most people dont want to fill out any more papers then thay have to at the DR. so thay just wrote medical history on the top and some where in little little print on the page it says that its a survay(just a idea). If I was you I would go back and ask point blank why the heck that ask you these questions for.

it really was a medical history it had all the other questions, like what surgries, how many children have you had (which is relevant, at least for a woman!) meds you are takign and family history stuff.

But you might have hit on something there mom9mom, they might have been tryign to do a little bit of a survery, esp since it is a obgyn, trying to find out the number of accidental babies without doing a seperate survery, probably thinking noone would think much of it!

This is just a shot in the dark but all I coud guess is that a person "knowing" they were an accident would be more then likely a person born to older parents.  I am talking parents in the age range of late 40's and up.  Now, I don't know but possibly these children of said parents might be more predisposed to certain illness that have been tracked back to these types of births.  Maybe they were trying to keep from asking "were your parents old when they had you" which would also seem rather odd.  Just a guess on my part so take it with a grain of salt.

oh well i wasnt' upset by it or anything, i just thought it was really really weird.
the age thing is a good point though, that might have something to do with it.
