2 Day post op

Hey!

  I brought my laptop to the hospital with me to watch movies and found a wireless connection!

Its day 2 post op and the pain is worse then it was yesterday.  I guess the anisthesea has worn off.

According to the surgeon everything went well, I even tooted for the first time in 18 months last night!

Woohoo!

  I asked my surgeon what to expect and he did not have much useful information... pain and cramping is all he said.

If it wasnt for you guys I would have no idea what to expect!!

Wow, you are on your laptop 2 days after surgery! Thats a good idea to bring it. :). Hope you have a smooth recovery and keep everyone posted.

YAY so glad you are doing good, well as good as you can be, lol.
If you are in lots of pain ask for more meds, and also have your dr ok gas-x for you, that will help.

Hey! I get my ileostomy surgery in 30 days and counting yeah   Can you tell me what to expect when I wake up? I know they arent doing it laproscoprically (sp?) so theyre cutting me open..dunno if you had it that way or not. So what should I expect? It sounds like you were in lots of pain but i think after any surgery where you have to get your guts cut open your gonna be sore lol

Hope the recovery goes well :-) Good luck with everything and keep us posted on how your doing.

Wow, it's so good to hear from you! I'm glad you're doing so well only 2 days out of surgery. Do they have you on IV pain meds? Don't be shy to ask the nurse for some, okay? Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

I am back at home!   It is so nice to have be back in my own bed and my own bathroom.  Hospitals are really crowded in Canada and I had a co-ed room with 3 other people... Luckily 2 of the other patients had new ileostomies so the line up for the bathroom wasnt too long! smilewinkgrin

I had to spend an extra 2 days there as I was feeling nauseas and having problems keeping things down.  Still in a bit of pain but have switched from Percacet to Tylenol 3s so all is well!

The biggest adjustment is having free hands while on the toilet.  I guess I will catch up on all my reading again! wink

Angela,

Good to hear that you are home and resting comfortably in your own surroundings.  Isn't it amazing how much you miss your  favorite things, like your bed and pillow and favorite chair or sofa?  Ya never realize it until you are away from it... like sleeping in hotels - gets old after a while! 

Sounds like you are doing wonderfully.  Don't expect too much from your body - it's been through a lot.  Take it ease, take it slow.  Listen to it  - take naps if you have to.

Keep us updated on your progress.  Best of luck to you.  Good news is always great to hear.

Good for you!!! Just remember you just had surgery, so take care and don't overdo anything:)

Angela, I have a question...I have a temp ileostomy right now, and I'll most likely not have my reconnect surgery till after graduation (in May). What can I expect from the second surgery? I know you're just out of yours, and it takes several weeks to get back to normal. My doctors have said that it will be a "piece of cake" compared to what I went through with the first one (lots of complications b/c of perforated (sp?) colon), but then my surgeon was saying how much more complicated it is to reconnect, and how many things can go wrong. I know people have this done all the time, and I even know someone who has, but I'm still really apprehensive. My parents are helping me possibly look into a specialist for surgery. Any suggestions, etc.?

The surgery is not to bad at all.Getting your bowels to work right takes a bit of time.At first it takes a few days to wake up then when it dos you spend the next week or so in the bathroom.It takes awhile to get the diearea under control(months)If you are like me you will always have diearea but it will go from 10 to 20 times a day down to 2 to 3 times a day after a while your DR. will tell you that you can take imodium to help(do not take it tell you are told to).After I got it down to 2 or 3 times sometimes I have a bad day but I dont take the imodium because it makes me feel bad.But you can try it when you get to that point it might not do the same thing to you.Good luck and a prayer that every thing gos well for you and keep us posted on how you do.

Thanks, that encourages me. It's good to know about the immodium; I've taken it before, but I was so sick and out of it at that time that I don't know if it made me worse. So glad to be healthy now smilewinkgrin ..I read on your signature about your twin sister, and I am so sorry; I am a twin, too, and I know that must be really hard. Thank you for your advice and your prayers.
