colostomy- rectal pain

I haven't been on here in a while but I haven't got a lot of updated news except that I am still having a ton of issues. My doctor did tell me he will do a colostomy if this next defogram doesn't turn out like he wishes... my biggest question is, since I have tons of debilitating rectal pain from having bms will I still have the rectal pain.. Do you guys out there that have colostomies have rectal pain or does that seem to subside once you are not having bm the normal way? I am not too concerned with the bag it sounds like most have been able to enjoy a much better life but there has to be a catch? I hope all this makes sense?

what is the pain from. does the doctor tell you why you have this pain.. i have pain also. I dont have a colostomy but i did have most of my colon taken out. and my pain in my rectum was not due to bm's and yes it still hurts. it is like spasims in there and it last like a half hour at most. but it is awful........explain your pain to me.. my dr said once i get healed up more it might not be as often.. so i hope he is right.

The pain is from spasms and the muscles in my sphincter everytime I have a bm I have a lot of pain all day and the onlything that releives it is to lie down and I can't keep doing that the rest of my life. He also said he could do some injections but that area really needs to rest to heal properly and I totally agree. Sounds like we have much of the same issues I also have the colon issues to so that is why he wants to do another defogram to make sure there is absolutely nothing else he can do first but I am just ready for it to all be over with.

I had Crohn's in my rectum, so it used to hurt all the time, but I had it removed two years ago, and life is good without it! I have an ileostomy and feel great.

Where in Florida do you live? I'm in Fort Myers. smilewinkgrin

What does that mean I have never heard of chrons in your rectum? What were your symtoms and how did they detect it and did they remove your rectum? Sorry for all the questions but like I said I never heard of that?

Crohn's is a disease, liken it to Ulcerative Colitis, only CD is chronic and can affect any part of the digestive system. I too, had CD in the rectum, large intestine and part of the small intestine and have an ileostomy. CD in the rectum (or anywhere) is terribly painful and can be very irritated by multiple bm's a day. CD sumptoms vary from person to person. Some folks have pain and burning, some pass blood - it just depends. Colonoscopy would be the way to detect CD in the rectum..... I'll let flchurchlady answer you also (sorry to butt in - no pun intended!)
