Tips for Showering with Applicance On..??

I was just wondering if y'all would mind posting some tips that you use for showering with your ostomy applicance on...   I currently use a Hollister 2 piece Premier which is cloth covered on both sides.  I like it, but naturally it gets wet in the shower, making my shower time very long (have to dry it with hair dryer, etc...) Currently I am using plastic wrap taped over the applicance, but this gets to be inconvenient, not to mention expensive. Any hints I can use?? Thanks! confused

I use that appliance, too, and just do a quick dryoff with the towel (both sides and the wafer) then use the hairdryer on low for less than a minute...make sure its low or you can melt the "fabric"!

Early on I used a larger plastic bag (I think it was a gallon size) that I cut a small hole (size of where the wafer/pouch meet) and cut from the hole to the open end. That allowed me to slip it on over the pouch, shower, dry off, remove the plastic bag and the pouch was dry...after a while tho, that was too much work!!! Hope that helps:)

press and seal sticks to your skin and that will help.
But what i do is turn thebag up on itself and fold it onto my stomach and then tape it to me covering it completly with medical tape, which keeps it from getting too awful wet. Then when i get out i dry it with the hair dryer for a few minutes

I just shower, let the bag get wet, and while I am combing my hair or brushing my teeth, I lay the hair dryer on the counter on a dry washcloth (so it doesn't vibrate), and dry my bag/cloth edges of the wafer, then get dressed. Multi-tasking!!

Good for you --- I don't like the dampness under the bag, esp in the winter here in IN!! Summertime is no different than perspiring under it, which I certainly do, but if I take a shower and then am in the air conditioning, it also gets kinda cool!!!!

I have been asking this questions forever and NOTHING worked for me but I'm so excited to finally share and help u!!!! I tried SURE SEAL RINGS and LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!! I put it on when i change my bag. First apply ur wafer then the seal ring around it ( u have to cut a little to fit right around the edge where the bag clips on) then u clip the bag on. It protect the wafer and if u have an accident. After my shower I just towel dry my cloth bag and get ready as usual and by the time I'm ready to get dressed it's dry. It's made my life sooooo much easier. Now i take showers so much quicker and much more often than I used to to (ewww that didn't sound right, but u get what I'm saying..haha) I don't even think twice about having a bag anymore it was such an inconvenience so hard.

I'm sure u will love this product if u try it...hope this helps...good luck

I shower with it on, too, and just towel dry. Down here in Florida, we don't have to worry about it freezing against our skin in the winter! hehehe smilewinkgrin

I just ordered the sure seal thingies...I have to say I thought they were something you could buy in the grocery store until I looked them up online!!! Boy I felt silly:)

I feel like an idiot asking this but what are sure seals? I did a search for them and for the life of me I can not figure out what they do. If it's a ring then how does it keep your pouch dry. Sorry to ask such a stupid question.

Hi Sue...yeah, me too...I looked them up on the web and can't figure out how they would keep my pouch dry...please help me to comprehend....(am I just having a DUH moment here???) confused confused

ok, I haven't rec'd mine yet, but from what I read, they don't keep the pouch dry, they keep the wafer dry...They cover the "fabric" part and in doing so, makes towel drying all you have to do!  They will also contain any leaks, if you have one, by not letting anything soak through (but you'll be able to see any through the clear plastic).

I found/ordered them from Edgepark...just type in "sure seal"

I'll have to look them up - they sound like they just are another layer of plastic with tape around it that is disposable?  I'll check them out.

my order arrived on Saturday (boy, that was quick!) so I put the sure seal on when I changed on Sunday...So far, so good!!!  I did order the wrong size, medium instead of small, so there is a little part of the wafer that is not covered, but it doesn't make a real difference.  I was able to dry off the wafer and pouch with a towel, get dressed and go!!  I didn't have the really wet feeling I would get if I didn't dry well enough...they say the seal is breathable but will still prevent leaks from getting through...hopefully I won't have to worry about that!!  Oh, I did trim the outer edge of the seal so that it doesn't go too far out from the wafer.  These would probably work great with wafers that have more paper-like tape!  I think I like them cool
